Ok everyone in my family thinks I have a problem and that Im anorexic. To me someone who has a problem, either doesnt eat, or vomits after meals, and I do netiher of these.

I am about 8 stone, 5'7 (yes my BMI is underweight), I eat 3 meals a day, sometimes binge in the evenings but am never sick just feel guilty and exercise more.
I do exercise about 4 times a week. I think my main problem is that when I look in the mirror I still see a fat person even though I'm an 8/10, sometimes I cant bear to look at myself.

Some advice would be great

skinnymouse, you said you dont want to see gp as he/she will label you.hasnt your mn labelled you?

twoisplenty · 23/02/2007 11:18

When I did have an ed (many years ago) I didn't go to GP. Found a private counsellor specialising in ed. She was brilliant and sorted me out quickly with no label. Well worth it.

Meant to say that that is worth considering, I wasn't just hightlighting personal issues..didn't want to appear to be changing thread.

oops sorry didnt actually type message. Twoisplenty how much did it cost? Its not something I would consider at the moment as I think it would be a waste of time, but maybe as others have said it may present a problem in the future and I may consider it.

lissielou, I never starve myself EVER, and yes I enjoy my food, too much sometimes, I dont eat to please other people, I just eat what I want, I dont look at things and think 'how many calories has that got in it' and I have never dieted.

My problem seems to lie in what I think looks thin and what I see when I look in the mirror

Hm...how much more exercise do you do after a binge...that is aprt of anorexia...over obcessive exercising!
You clearly do NOT have a healthy Bodyimage, seeing that you even know you have a very underweight BMI (not just by a bit)but see a "FAT" person in the mirror...

twoisplenty · 23/02/2007 18:31

Hi skinnymouse. The cost was around £20 per hour, but that was 10 years ago. I didn't need many sessions, so she was a good counsellor to get straight to the heart of the matter. GP's don't really understand emotional/food issues or body image usually.

You mentioned that you don't like your image and would like surgery - well counselling/therapy is definitely cheaper than surgery, there are no side effects or risks and you end up actually liking yourself just as you are!

Good luck whatever you decide.

It may sound like a silly question, but what do you want to see in the mirror? Which bits of you would you like to change? Perhaps you could do a diagram of yourself and put in the bits how you would like them to be? I did that once, but kept it to myself. I too have been quite thin and hated what I saw. These days I accept my body and realise why other people like it.
