Severe Anaemia?

For the past two weeks have felt shaky, very tired, had headaches on waking, heart racing, short of breath. Had blood tests for iron and thyroid on the 30th Dec and doc wants to see me tomorrow but said it wasn't urgent.
This weekend have felt dreadful and struggled to get out of bed. Just laid around all weekend, any little task exhausts me. Shortness of breath and shaking have got worse.
Am feeling quite panicky about it all and wondering if I need to be seen tonight but as doctor's receptionist said it's not urgent when she called then feel like I shouldn't be worrying.
If it's anaemia is it normal for the symptoms to get worse like this in the space of a few days?
Have been taking iron tablets all week. Had my period last week which probably hasn't helped. Just need reassurance from anyone who has had similar symptoms.

I don't know about things getting worse but I imagine if the results indicated severe anything the doctor wouldn't have said it's not urgent.

Sorry, the receptionist not doctor (though she'll be acting on doctor's notes).

Period could definitely have added to symptoms if it is anaemia, I'd have thought.

Iron tablets will take a while to build up/improve things (again, I'm assuming).

I know Dotty, you are probably right just panicking as seem to have got worse and because I have had bad experiences with doctors with my DS in the past where they dismissed my concerns and he ended up in hospital.

It's really hard to switch off those worries/thoughts. Anxiety will possibly also be exacerbating some of your symptoms. Can you do things this evening that relax you (if nothing else, hopefully it'll help you to rest) to try and get through to tomorrow?

iwanttoridemybicycle · 08/01/2017 21:40

Yes anxiety is probably not helping me. Thanks for replying Dotty, will have to try and take my mind off it.

Sorry you're feeling rough. Low haemoglobin levels will cause breathlessness, but so will anxiety.
Unless you've had a massive bleed/unusually heavy period since your last blood test, I'd wait for your gp appointment tomorrow.

iwanttoridemybicycle · 08/01/2017 21:49

Thanks Punk, I will wait, have calmed down a bit. Just frustrated as normally very active so worry when I can't even walk upstairs without feeling a bit breathless.

Flowers Hope your appointment goes ok tomorrow, try and get some sleep. Anxiety is horrible.
iwanttoridemybicycle · 08/01/2017 22:02

Thank you, I will.

Hope you get on ok today.

Thank you Dotty. It's overactive thyroid and not anaemia after all although my iron levels are lower than what they should be. The doc has given me tablets and beta blockers for the symptoms and need to see a specialist too.
Really touched that you thought about me this morning. Thanks.

Glad you've got an answer and hopefully something they can treat. Hope the tablets help quickly and the referral comes through soon.

PunkrockerGirl · 09/01/2017 14:44

Glad you got some answers and hopefully you'll feel much better when your tablets kick in.

iwanttoridemybicycle · 09/01/2017 16:32

Thank you, so do I. Seeing a consultant this week.
