Gallstones - cholecystitis

Anyone else had gallstones/cholecystitis? This bout started on Christmas Day and is not letting up :( I've been in hospital for IV antibiotics and am now on tablets, but it doesn't seem to be easing. I am so fed up with the pain!

Yeah, I had mine out ages ago. Have they scheduled an op for you? The pain really is horrible.

No, I have an appointment to see the surgeon in 4 weeks, so then he'll say you need it out and I'll have to wait God knows how long for the op!

But I rang the surgical helpline this morning to ask if I should expect my symptoms to ease or am I just managing the pain, got an appointment at the Surgical Assessment Unit on Tuesday afternoon, I can cancel if the antibiotics actually start to do something. She said it won't replace the appointment in 4 weeks, but perhaps if things aren't progressing there is something they can do to move things along at a more speedy pace.

I just want them to whip it out, this is so draining and I feel useless!

At least we know it is now, I originally thought it was heartburn, as I did the previous attacks looking back with hindsight! But they were just a few hours not a week long!

They say that rapid weight loss causes more gallstones, well I've lost half a stone since Christmas Day!

I have had it and it's the most painful experience I've ever had - much worse than three lots of childbirth.

Removal definitely the best option - hope you haven't too long to wait.

I'm on the path now, after big attack early Nov. Eating ultra low fat and small meals helps and I've found gentle exercise good for moving the pain around... Change is as good as a rest?!

It could be a while before surgery , I went from gp to ultrasound to consultant then gastroscopy nd have a ct on Tuesday. Don't know when surgery will be yet... Have lost a stone so far and everyone saying I look amazing, just wish it was without the pain!

No improvement today. I have forced myself to Sainburys to the pharmacist to get some laxatives though, as all these drugs (esp the codine) and bugging me up.

Back to work tomorrow, for the morning anyway, at least it's only an INSET day and I am back at the hospital in the afternoon. I only get 2 weeks paid sick, so if I will need that to have it out I can't really afford to lounge around at home now :-(

I just feel that after 8 days of constant pain I should be seeing some improvement in the actual symptoms, not just dulling the pain with painkillers.

I feel your pain...quite literally until last year. Unfortunately the only thing that helped me was morphine :/

Currently back in hospital. They let me have paracetamol, codine, tramadol and ibuprofen in one go, so finally pain free for the first time since Xmas day. Enjoying the pain free hours!

Antibiotics via IV have also been started, AMG plus some other one!

I hope this lot finally gets the inflammation down so that I can get back to normal!

Worst pain of my life ( and i've given birth 4 times) someone called an ambulance the first time because the pain was so bad I couldn't breath properly and we didn't have a clue what it was! So it was my doctor who told me it was gallstones after the hospital didn't pick up on it. I had an ultrasound and the surgery was decided....but I was on a long waiting list that was until it started affecting my liver and I went very jaundice then I had the op very quick through keyhole surgery (day surgery) Having my gallbladder removed was the best thing ever after all that pain. I have complete sympathy for anyone with Choleycystitis. I had it in 2013 and it's worse than labour pains, 100 times worse IMO. I in for IV antibiotics and was in hospital for 4 days, I only waited 3 weeks to have the operation to have my gallbladder removed thank goodness!

Well I survived and am on the mend, the second trip to hospital and two days of IV antibiotics has done the job. They were too quick to discharge me the first time, the danger of a non-specialist doing the rounds. This time I have totally been under the care of the UGI team and saw the top surgeon/consultant a few times.

But will need to go and get some more tablets antibiotics have given me thrush - yay!

Going to potter into work for a few hours tomorrow to do paperwork stuff, not up to being around kids yet! But work is fine with that, will also mean it doesn't count as a sick day, and I only get 2 weeks paid per year, so need to save some for the operation itself!

i can't compare to labour pains, am child free, but the constant depth of it was the worst thing I have ever gone through! No let up in pain for 7.5 days until I finally was given tramadol!

I made sure I was given some of that to take home even though I only needed it a couple of times in hospital just in case I have a flair up again at home!

Now got awful back ache, top right side, apparently common according to the Internet :-( I have just finished the antibiotics, I feel pretty rubbish all of the time still, and still taking painkillers. So fed up!

Yes back ache is my main symptom now. It sucks! I have found lately that loosing my appetite seems to forecast a bad few days coming. Any news on an op for you? I am going to chase up this week

No news on the op unless something arrived today after I left. I got worse so sitting in a and e waiting to be seen. Rang surgical helpline like before they said try for same day GP, they have no appointments, surgical assessment unit said they have no clinic appointments so to go to a and e and wait, I will end up being seen by the same people I guess, it's just a different waiting room to start with I think.

So fed up!

Currently had morphine, was bliss for about 30min!

Not sure yet what they are doing to sort me out, I am fed up, tired and groggy from the trippy anti sickness drugs I got
