Pain relief for baby other than calpol/ibuprofen?

Does anyone know if there is anything stronger than paracetomol or ibuprofen which is suitable for babies (ds is 8mo)? I know there's nothing over the counter but wondered if there's anything available on prescription? My dr was very cagey when I talked to her about ds' excessive teething pain so I thought I'd do some net research.
Capol + ibuprofen don't do anything when he has really bad pain and I feel it is unfair to leave him screaming in agony for 2 hours if there's something which could make it better for him. I obviously don't want to give him anything which would be harmful, but equally want to explore the options rather than just accept that he should suffer like this.
Thanks!!

you can aslso get medised which has a mild sedative and I use teething powders too, ashton and parsons or nelsons homeopathic ones

NotQuiteCockney · 19/02/2007 21:34

Medised has paracetamol in it, so you can't mix it with other things with paracetamol in them.

The proper maximum doses for paracetamol and ibuprofen are judged by weight, not by age, and you could work those out and give him more. But I wouldn't, for pain - just for fever.

Oh, medised hasn't really got a sedative per se, it has an antihistamine that happens to be a sedative, iyswim.

Bonjela can help, too. As can cold things to chew on.

Have you tried giving both calpol and ibrufen together

ScoobyC · 19/02/2007 21:38

Thanks, will look for medised as a sedative might help, could give it instead of calpol. He likes the homeopathic powders but they don't seem to help!

Thanks for the input!

Hi runkid, yes, we give them together but it doesn't make any difference...
