Mirena Coil anyone?

Bloody GP!! I've been to see him today cos I am getting pins and needles and a cold, numb feeling in my left arm and leg, late at night. This isn't happening in my pill free week so much, so I thought I ought to get it checked out. He's said it may be nothing to be concerned about but it may be a warning sign and therefore, I can't stay on my combined pill. He ain't too keen on my going back on the mini pill either which I used when I was breastfeeding and wasn't too keen on cos I bled erratically.
He has recommended the mirena coil, saying that given the pins and needles and my age (nearly 38), he thinks its the best option. I had a coil in about 12 - 15 years ago and hated it, heavy painful periods but I gather this one is all singing all dancing
Has anyone any experience, good or bad? Or am I back to condoms and crossed fingers?
Thanks

I had shooting pains and cramps on and off for a couple of weeks, to the point I really thought something had to be wrong. Went back to GP to have it checked and it was fine - they said it takes a few weeks to "settle" and in the meantime to take painkillers. It is worth it in the end though, honest!

Thanks for that. I guess I just need reassuring that this is normal. I usually exercise alot, but have found that I cant even jog a short distance as this seems to start the cramps again. I hope like you, this only takes a couple of weeks to settle, in order that I can get back to the gym.

I went to the Gyn at the RSCH today and she agreed that my periods were far too heavy.

She told me I had 3 options

Tranexamic acid but don't fancy that option

Removal of the womb lining, via laser which is very effective but only lasts five years.

Mirena coil. Really don't fancy this one either.Worried about weight gain, and foreign object in my body.

So I sat there and basically said that I was staggered that options were so few.

Then, I sat there and sat there looking bemused

Tumbleweed moment.

Then, and only then did she offer me the Mirena equivalent in tablet form to try and if it agrees with me, then Mirena coil no problem.

Just that she was pushing the MC on me when there was an oral suck it and see option. IYKWIM

hello, Im 24 with 2 boys decided to hav the merina fitted after the second as no plans for third. About 6 months after i had it fitted i got a very heavy period after spotting once a month for the 6 months. i then checked for my strings as my nurse said to do every month after a period. no strings so i went fo my f.p. clinic they ordered an ultra sound which said 10 months later it was there and in position in the 10 months i ahd been taken the pill for safety and when i was told it was in position i stopped now im pg and hav had 4 doctors say it may be in there but they dont know where there are several discolourations in my cervix that may be it but the went searching up there and no sign!!! at least when i was on the pill i knew i forgot it and we could be more careful. I would never put a foreign object into my body again!!!!! the thing should be takin off the market. I hav nothin but bad things about since this has happened Id like to see a new study done because i highly doubt its 1 in 1000 hav problems!!!!!!!!
