Could DS have a UTI?

DS is 3.2, has just started potty training (2 weeks in) and is doing incredibly well. He does seem to go to sit on the potty an awful lot, though doesn't always produce anything. He's also started being dry at night, even though he's still in a nappy. Today he's been complaining that his willy hurts when he wees. It doesn't look at all red.

I guess it's a trip to the doctor if it's still hurting tomorrow, but I did wonder whether it was possible that the increased 'access' to it, and constantly making sure it's pointing down into the potty, might be making it sore instead of it being a UTI. Any thoughts would be welcome, please, as it's not something I've got any experience of.

He could have maybe...this is gross but does he wee smell stronger or different at all?Is he running a temperature or does he seem not himself?(all UTI symptoms)However my dd, 13 months, had a UTI and there were no outward signs at all so even if he has none of these he still may have one..I think take him to the GP, if poss get a sample before you go as this is what they will need to test for UTI.If he does have one it isnt usually serious, they will just treat with anti biotics.

Hope this helps

Thanks scootermum . I don't think his wee smells different or stronger, and he seems completely himself otherwise. I think I'll monitor for a day or so, and see what happens.

He'll probably be fine-it might just be the new thing with the potty training.Just make sure he drinks plenty of clear fluid to be on the safe side and even if he does have one it will probably clear on its own..And as you say keep an eye on him..

Good luck and give him a big hug for being such a good potty user!

Thanks scootermum - he has been amazingly good at it (mind you, he is 3.2).
