Tailor bunion surgery anyone ?

Hi, I have tailor bunions on both my feet and was advised to get the right side removed through day surgery. I'm really terrified and would like to hear from those who has had it done.

  • how was the opp? The recovery? And time ? Have you notice huge improvement and what shoes do you wear now? Any side effect ? And has it change the way you walk?
I'm limited to trainers only at the moment and I'm in pain daily. I'm in my mid 30s with a 2yrs old toddler. not pregnant yet but would love to be in the coming year. I will be hiring a live in mothershelper to help around with daily task and my toddler... Any suggestion on time frame I need him/her for?

Please get it done, and don't worry.
it's the best thing I've ever done (had it on both bunions)scarring is barely visible.it didn't hurt me at all!it was just annoying as I had to wear those blue boots for a while and try not to weight bear.I can wear most shoes these days.most proud of wearing flip flops (was to embarrassed before)need to do school run and shopping now but can send you pics after if you like?x

Sorry I was in a bit of a rush this morning, and didn't answer all your questions.
I was able to go home 1-2 hours after waking up.I didn't have any side affects.there was a huge improvement as my feet are now straight so it's not agony to wear and walk in shoes.it hasn't changed the way I walk at all.and it didn't even hurt, was just awkward in the boots and not weight bearing for a while.I managed with a 2yo on my own after both the ops (didn't have both feet done at the same time) I was obviously slower at chasing her around, and to take her downstairs I just used to sit her on my lap and bump down the stairs on my bum.housework was harder also.
but I think of you get help for 2-3 weeks you should be fine.Smile

Thank you wishparry for your reply _ im feeling less anxious after reading your reply. I'm glad it went all well for you and it healed quickly. Glad that you manage to juggle with toddler and housework too. I think I will start interviewing housekeepers from in Jan. Thanks again.

Did you get the surgery yet, op?

I have tailor's bunions on both feet. But when I went to an NHS podiatrist three years ago, she said she wouldn't refer me for surgery. She was very dismissive as well.

I just had to wear trainers and insoles all the time, she said.

I lapsed a bit and they've started really bothering me again and I actually want the surgery! (Back on the trainers and insoles though.)

Can those who've had it let me know who referred them? Was it your NHS podiatrist?

Hi nickname1980 - i first went to podiatrist and same as you she was very dismissive about the surgery. As it started to bother me even more I went back to my gp and asked for a 2nd opinion specialist which is when she referred me to the hospital. Hope this helps.

Thanks cazz81 - did you have the operation yet?

wishparry · 10/02/2017 10:15

I was refered to see a specialist by my gp because I had a big ganglion on one of my bunions and the pain when walking was becoming unbearable.
I saw a really good specialist, Dr Trimble.I saw him for an assessment at derriford hospital in plymouth first.then he did the surgeries at tavistock hospital.
He was amazing and really understood just how painful bunions can be.
if your gp or podiatrist won't refer you, perhaps you could try to look up Dr trimbles details and go straight to him if you are in the south west.
