When will DD stop being sick?

We've all had a gastric bug this week in our house, except DD - until today.

At 5pm she started being sick every 15 mnutes to an hour. She was last sick around 8.30 and asked to go to bed at 9. we had been keeping her up to monitor her and prevent her getting into a mess as she get really upset, but she was so tired and weak we could'nt refuse.

The last thing she bought up was yellow bile (sorry if TMI).

She has just started fidgeting in bed, which earlier as a sign she was about to be sick. And i getting to her room I could hear her tummy churning. I sat her up over the bowl and she sat there for about 30 seconds to a minute gulping, but bought nothing up. She asked to lie down again.

Anyone have any ideas as to whether she'll bring any more up - I'm sure there's nothing left in her by now!

Is she drinking? That will at least give her something to bring up.
Poor thing.

AWwwww

Give her water, then at least she won't be dry retching, which is awful.

I had this last night, but haven't vomited today, so hopefully it's only a few hours of vomming

This is only the 4th time in her whole life (3.5yrs) she has been sick, and she's terrified of it. The look on her face was heartbreaking.

I got her to sip water while she was awake, but now she's so sleepy she's a nightmare to get to do anything.

DH and I keep reassuring her that she will feel better for it, and telling her not to worry about clothes etc. And her baby brother obligingly threw up and then smiled tonight as if to make our point If she could just sleep through then pehaps she will be fine tomorrow. It only lasted the rest of us about 12 hours.

Update!

DD was taken to bed at 9pm and asked for a drink. DH gave his lucosade sport which she gulped half of, then threw up at midnight. She sipped the rest and t stayed down. She got up this moring and asked for lemonade -asked DH to get her Coke to make her feel better, he got Pepsi Max she wanted this and had a mouthful around 11am then slept then woke at 1.30pm and threw it up.

Refused to eat anything for the rest of the day. Got to tea time and asked for noodles. I gave her about two tablespoons of noodles at 5pm which she ate very well. She is now in bed - fingers crossed!

If she keeps them down she off to pre-school tomorrow.

Fingers crossed then.
Have to say i don't think she should be at pre-school tomorrow. All she has had to eat all day(thats stayed down) is a few noodles. Won't she be too tired and weak for pre-school tomorrow?

LowFatMilkshake · 18/02/2007 21:51

I thought she would be like that today - but she has amazing reserves, plus she absolutley loves pre-school, and we have a rule that she must eat breakfast before going to pre-school or she doesnt go.

But regardless I will asses it agin in the moring to be sure.

I dunno Tortoise, Ds1 BOUNCES back from illness. And, having had this bug, and feeling fine and dandy 24 hourts after first vom, I would say send her if you think she's ok.

It's a vicious little bug at first, but it is quick to leave.

Crazydazy · 18/02/2007 22:00

Yes you can usually tell yourself if your child is not well enough for school its the mum's that couldn't care less whether their children are ill or not that send them in that are in the wrong whereas LFM does seem to care about the wellbeing of her child.

Well....

DD woke all ahppy to go back to pre-school, ate a bit of breakfast - dry cereal - the norm for her (not a good eater at the best of times) and some squash.

Went to pre-school completely normal behviour, picked her up 2.5 hrs later still good, keyworker said she had been fine, made lots of art work etc. We stopped at the shop on the way home and I bought her some fizzy lucosade to help her energy after the last couple of days. She drank a small glass of it and bought it back 2 hours later!!

Phoned GP who has suggested that we stick to still drinks - no dairy. And for food -when she asks for some she only has a digestive or some toast with marmite or jam - no dairy spread. He is hoping the only reason she was sick was the fizzy drink was too gassy on an empty tummy, but I am to call him back tomorrow if no change in her appetite.
