He doesn't seem to have an upset stomach, nor does he appear to be very constipated. He is now saying that his tummy is hurting, but hadn't mentioned it before I asked.
I plan to take him to the gps about this next week, for some reason I feel really worried.
Its more likely to be piles or an anul fissure isn't it? Than anything nasty I mean.

More than likely he is slighty constipated and the dry hard stools are tearing his skin causing the bleeding.

I'd up his liquids and give him fruit juices and some probiotics

it is most likely just a small cut

I know this will probably sound really grim but is it bright red blood? When my son had this problem (whilst suffering with gastroenteritis) the doctor said that bright red blood was more than likely from a small tear and it wasn't really anything to worry about. Is it just one instance or has your son suffered with this before?

This happens to my DS every now and then. Probably because he refuses to eat much in the way of fruit and veg I reckon. Anyway yes it's due to a little fissure in his case. I would say don't worry but seeing the GP will certainly put your mind at rest.

Oh thank you for your responses. My ds1 is not in the best of health, so I also worry more with him.
I think it most probably is that, it is bright red. God we have talked through with him about trying to eat more fruit and veg into his diet, but he is a tough one.
He even annnounces to strangers, that "eating fruit and vegetables will make my poohs soft", but then he just wont eat more of them when it comes to it

Overrun - I really don't think this will be anything serious but always best to get anything like this checked out with your GP. Do you have a walk-in centre in your town as that can be easier and they are normally open at weekends too. I always use the walk-in centre for my boys because you have to book up in advance to be ill and see a GP!!

Overrun, it was my mum who noticed it last time round as I generally leave him to sort himself out on the loo (he's 7). He also knows about eating fruit and veg, and has bursts of eating extra apples etc but then it's back to the battle. The first time it happened several years ago the GP sent a sample off to be analysed but there was nothing amiss. They may do that with you just to check, but it's definitely a cracked bottom due to forcing it these days!
