What (else) could cause breast tenderness?

Breasts have been tender for a month (on removing bra and if pressed). It feels a bit like the day before my period, except it has been going on for much longer. Periods are very irregular, and my last one was in September. Unlikely to be pregnancy. Do I need to get them checked out?

I think it's to do with oestrogen, making. Alcohol can make us more sensitive to the effects thereof and if you're a bit hormonally wonky - you say you have fibroids and I do too - it makes sense you're more sensitive as fluctuations aren't from a normal base level, they're from a heightened level if that makes sense?

Yes that makes sense. I'm blaming most things on my beastly fibroids - they've got a lot to answer for in my eyes lol

I'm 38, so perimenopause is not totally impossible. Gulp.

Oh I'm really relieved to see this thread. Mine have been tender for weeks, on and off and I was about to go to the gp.
Early 40s here and really sensitive to hormones so I wonder if that's it. I also drink a shit load of caffeinated drinks - had no idea there was a link Shock

Hi Whirly, yes welcome to the club. I feel I'm really hormonal - I assume it can be a thing?

WreckTangled · 13/12/2016 06:04

I'm 29 so presumably not peri menopausal!

Tenderness in breast is common during periods. But if it persists, then it need to be checked. Make sure that you donot have Mastalgia, which is a condition that can cause breast pain.

I've had the same and been worried sick since it's only on the left side. Before rushing off to the GP I tried going off underwire for a while & got myself some well fitting non underwire bras from M&S. Really comfy & good fit. Have to admit the pain has become negligible after 4 weeks of use. Might be worth trying?

WreckTangled · 13/12/2016 14:23

I've ordered some non wired bras to try to see if that helps Xmas Smile

HarlotsWeb · 13/12/2016 17:53

I have enormo-boobs so am wary of unwired bras but could give it a try!

I always wear underwired so would be worth a go :-)
