bazuka worked for me - took a few weeks but cleared it completely after it being their for years (I didn't realise it was a veruca until it started spreading when I got pregnant - presumably the hormones afected it).

I had one for 10 years and tried everthing. The most effective one that got rid of it was called avoca its in a green box and you can get it from most chemists.

It turns your skin black but then it comes off with the verruca! You have to be very gentle when applying it and make sure you dont get it on other parts of skin. HTH

I had them when I was about 17 and because I did nothing they spread, and I ended up getting a wart under my fingernail too (it's exactly the same virus but verrucas get pushed upwards because they are on the soles of your feet). I went for a series of having them frozen with liquid nitrogen at the GPs every fortnight but they didn't respond and made my feet really sore. Eventually I got a hospital appointment and basically had the same liquid nitrogen but a much more severe doctor who totally blasted my feet and hand for what seemed like eternity. It was extremely sore for a couple of days and then they magically all fell out and I haven't ever had them since! I can't tell you the magic feeling of them coming out and leaving little holes in my heels! Very satisfying.

My DS gets the odd one now and again (neither me, DH or DS2 have ever caught them)
Spoke to a chiropodist who said at DS's age (6) they should be left untreated so that the body can reject them and form an immunity to them. Ds's first one eventually went black and i picked it off. Apparently verruccas HATE warm moist environments so keeping a sticky plaster on it most of the time will encourage it to draw itself out

Tessiebear · 04/04/2005 11:28

Also their young skin is apparently to delicate for any of the treatments like Bazukka (even though they say it is suitable)

8yo dd has just had a verruca. I took her to the dr as she had this callousy thing but that's what it turned out to be. He gave her Salactol to put on it. You have to do it religiously every night but it went in about 6wks and has left no mark at all.

I also have a varucca, I've had it for years now, and it is resistant to any treatment I have brought from the chemist... it is now really large and the size of a penny... A PRE-DECIMAL PENNY!... its on the ball of my foot and throbs like crazy.. Some one told me to get a rough emery board and file it away every day, and this is the latest treatment I am trying! It appears that I don't have one big one like I thought... its made up of lots of verruca's... when you file them down your can see them, I now pick it after a bath and I am left with holes!.... I will keep you posted to how it goes!

suedonim · 04/04/2005 17:39

I think it is available OTC, Lisa2, after looking on the net. It's about 3 gbp. The dr also gave me a scalpel blade to hack at once a week. Fun!!

throckenholt · 05/04/2005 19:27

rummum - mine was a bit like that - had had it at least 15 years ! It was also on the ball of my foot and started spreading into new ones when I got pregnant. Extra strength bazuka gel did clear it totally - but it took a long time - couple of months at least. I scraped the coating off every 3-4 days and put on new gel (not as often as they say on the box). They are horrible things aren't they ?

elelulu · 07/04/2005 10:48

THIS REMEDY REALLY HELPS - It is an ointment made of vaselin and acetil-salicilic acid (Aspirin!!!) - if you are interested I can give you the detailed recepy, any chemist can make it for you (I need to ask my mum for it).

When I was a child I used to swim and I developed verrucaue - which were treated (burnt!!!!) in the hospital but kept coming back. At one time I had 9 in one foot and eleven in the other - I could barely walk. My mother eventually took me to a specilast who gave her the ointment and assured her that the verrucae would go and NEVER EVER come back. And that's exactly what happened.

fastasleep · 07/04/2005 10:56

Erm...weird question but is it possible to have a verruca on your finger?? I've had one on my foot before which was frozen off or something silly, and this looks just the same except it's on the end of my finger!! It gets in the way and I can't get rid of it, I've tried cutting it off and all sorts of things - would the verruca cure work on it do you think?

bundle · 07/04/2005 10:57

aren't verrucas the result of the same virus that causes warts, except they're squashed in because they're on the bottom of your foot?

xede · 07/04/2005 10:57

Not sure if this has been recommended as havent read all the posts....

Try Cuplex -we fab it brilliant. The only thing that worked after a 3yr veruccae - we tried leaving it, cuting it off(recommended by doc), bazuka , seal and heal and this was the only thing that worked and has been recommended by friends too. It costs about £6 and you HAVE to do it EVERY morning and night, but it really does work.

btw, the marigold clinic at the royal homeopathic hospital in london has terrific results with verrucas

fastasleep · 07/04/2005 10:59

But it's not a wart...it's squashy just like a foot verrucca...I'm weird aren't I lol

kazza3 · 07/04/2005 10:59

I know in the magazine Take a Break people were writing in saying that if you use the fleshy part of a banana skin and cut a small amount then put it onto the verucca and wrap a plaster around it to keep it in place this cures the verucca!!!!!!!!!!!! Lots of people said that it worked.
