Okay so DS(10wks) is just out of hospital after geting a horrible bug which left him unable to breathe as he was so bunged up - long story!

However due to his length we now have to move him into his cot in his own room. Above are the new items we are off to buy tomorrow.

New matress - obviously can't have DD's old one as it's been gathering dust for 2 years! A wedge to prop him up - he slept well like this in hospital. A humidifier to keep the air moist and help prevent him geting blocked up. And a cot angel monitor.

I did'nt have any of the last 3 with DD, but after the scare of almost loosing DS I am terrified!

What's your experiences of these items and is there anything else I could get instead or as well?

I had the Angelcare monitor and it was my best buy. I did still check on her occasionally, but I'm sure I slept better that I would have done without it. I would suggest also (if you haven't already) that you do a baby/toddler first aid course.

The Angelcare alarm did go off a couple of times when my LO was able to roll/crawl off the sensor pad, and of course went off when I had forgotten to turn it off when I lifted her in the morning!

The hospital were great in giving us infant resucitation lessons - without which I would still be firmly glued to the ward!

No advice - just wanted to say that I hope he continues to stay well - must have been a hell of a shock.

Was horrible, he went blue and bled from the mouth - probably caused by me blowing down his nose to clear the blockage. Taken in by ambulance and everthing - most terrifying day of our lives!

I know you said you have a wedge but have you though of resting one end of the cot on something (books for instance) to tilt the cot?
The hospital cots raise the end of the cot without bending the mattress. It's still a very flat mattress just raised at one end. Just a thought. I'm sure the wedge will be fine. We had a similar incident when our dd was 8weeks old. It's a terrible shock and knocks your confidence for a while. Take care.

We're tilting the moses basket with my Buffy the Vampire Slayer video boxsets
Not sure Ihave anything high enough to get the same sort of angle as the hospital cots though.

We put the prop under the mattress which meant the mattress where baby lay was still flat. We couldn't get the same angle as the hospital cots either

Might try some towels or an old pilo and see how that goes then. Thanx

I don't think the angelcare monitor will work if you prop up the mattress - the pad sits between the slats of the cot and the base of the mattress and need a good connection.

We had a monitor too and when ds had a cold or was flemmy we put a 2 thick books under one end of the cot - they are there at the moment as he has a cold. That way he is sleeping at an angle but the monitor will still work fine.

Nearly old enough (I think two weeks away - 3 months) from having one of those Boots Vaporisers. We find these very helpful. Put one tab in when he goes to bed. Another when you go to bed.

Tip. Get the Boots Vaporiser machine but use the other Tabs they sell at Boots - called VIVA They are better than the Boots ones, i think.

Thanx for these sugesstions. We bought a humidifier today in John Lewis, as well as the Tomy monitor with sensor mat - no where seems to have Angelcare near us

ordered new matress, but unable to find a wedge pillow to go on top of the matress so we're going to be relying on the book method
