drosophila · 16/02/2007 20:41

DD has got through has remained uninfected through three nursery outbreaks thus far, and we've just got to three weeks after I took her to see my friend's DD who had it ... so I guess she's not caught it this time either. But then while I had it as a child, and so did my brother, we didn't catch it at the same time, and my mum never caught it off either of us, so there may be something strange going on in my family, pox-wise.

Elasticwoman · 16/02/2007 21:39

All my 3 had it while I was still bf them. They weren't very poorly with it though. A bit of calamine lotion and just get on with it. Although I suppose it is polite to ask other parents if they mind before exposing infected child to theirs. Some will welcome it. Much better to get it pre school.

pindy · 16/02/2007 21:52

Dd had it and ds didn't catch it but dsd had it and dh caught it (bad)!!!!

ds then got it a few years later - there is no hard and fast rule, but in my opinion the earlier they have it he better, even though they may get it again!!!

Yep, I know that this really helps !!!!!

Good luck X

DumbledoresGirl · 16/02/2007 21:53

No not inevitable. CP went round ds3's playgroup last year and he didn't get it.

Need to keep away from people on cancer treatments and pregnant women near term who have never had it can be very serious although they can be given antibodies and antiviral drugs

Oh yes and old people who get hysterical when near a child with chickenpox as they are convinced they will end up with shingles - which they won't it is the other way round an old person with shingles is very infectious to someone who hasn't had chickenpox.

But then again the shingles may appear as they have worked themselves up to it (shingles can be precipitated by stress if you have had chickenpox at sometimes in past as it hides in the body)so might as well keep away from old people if you have a child with chickenpox as you will get the blame

misdee · 17/02/2007 15:56

also stay away with anyone with a suppressed immune system, not jsut cancwer treatments and pregnant women.

Chinken pox is going round DS's nursery and he has caught them! To be honest i'm glad. They say it's better to get them younger rather than once they get to school. He hasn't been poorly at all and his spots aren't all that bad.

It's his party in 3 weeks, would have been awful if he'd got them ready for that. Also you hear of people having to cancel holidays cos kids have chicken pox!

Hoping DD catches them now!!

lucykate · 17/02/2007 16:15

dd was exposed 3 times at nursery (she was there full time) before she caught the pox, unfortunatley it was right after ds was born and he got it too, at 7 weeks old.

gladbag · 17/02/2007 16:20

Chickenpox went round my neighbourhood children last spring, but ds didn't get it, despite playing with a couple of children all day when they were in the infectious stage. He then came down over with it over Christmas, much to my surprise as no warning, and when I took him back to his Nursery (small toddler room of 8), all of them were covered in crusty spots, except one little chap who was already immune.

edam · 17/02/2007 16:24

Ds has come down with chickenpox today - have been cases at his nursery school since New Year. Going to be fun for me trying to work next week with an ill child who just wants his mummy's full attention... stuck in the house unable to go and play with his friends. Bum. Will probably take him to the park when everyone else is at school being very careful to stay well away from anyone else.

MordecaiAliVanAllenOShea · 17/02/2007 16:47

My 2 both have chicken pox at the moment. Don't forget there is an incuabtion period of 14-20 days before it develops, so less likely to upset you half term .
