Cellulitis

Went to bed feeling really rough last night and woke up this morning to a red swollen nose, several blisters, a high temperature and swollen glands. Saw the gp this morning who said cellulitis and gave me antibiotics. By tonight the redness and blisters have spread, don't know about the temperature as I've been taking paracetamol to keep it down. Should I worry or just wait it out and hope the antibiotics work soon. First pic is lunchtime after I saw gp, the second is this evening.

That's quite red. GPs usually give antibiotics 24 to work with cellulitis before they think about hospital and IV antibiotics. However, that is rather close to your brain, if you are hot and feel lousy, call 111.

gingeroots · 06/12/2016 21:47

I agree about not leav ing it - would call 111 .To be on safe side .

TheCakes · 06/12/2016 21:51

Usually with cellulitis they draw round it to see if it's spreading or shrinking. It's a bit tricky on your face, but I'd be tempted to mark a few dots as a guide.
And I'd call 111 too.

I had Cellulitis on my nose 18 months ago and it looked very similar to yours. It didn't respond to the antibiotics I was given and spread across my face. My GP was quick to respond and prescribed a 2nd antibiotic and a topical cream. What helped was taking daily selfies to chart the progress so that the GP could track it. It took a couple of weeks for it to clear up and was very painful for the first week. I'd ask to see your GP in the morning if it doesn't seem to have responded at all. Good luck.

I had cellulitis a few years ago that had spread across half of my face by the time I got to see the GP. GP said usually the advice is hospital and IV antibiotics, but I was about to go on holiday, so she gave me two different broad spectrum oral antibiotics and they got rid of it in 10 days.

nicenewdusters · 06/12/2016 22:14

Yes, I'd go to the GP tomorrow at a minimum. My dad has had this several times, and occasionally it's spread rapidly, ending in a couple of hospital admissions.

Cornishmumoftwo · 06/12/2016 22:22

Thanks all. Really wasn't impressed with the gp I saw, she didn't bother with pulse and after she prescribed antibiotics I asked directly what it was and she said oh er well I think it might be a kind of cellulitis. She just said come back if paracetamol doesn't control the temperature. Quite puffy under my eyes now so think unless there's an improvement tomorrow morning I'll be back there. Off to draw dots on my face.

Has the redness gone past the dots on your face you must look a picture

Seriously, how are you today? Has it got better or worse? Did you end up at GPs or hospital? Flowers

galaxygirl45 · 07/12/2016 14:18

My mum had this on her leg recently, and they wanted to admit her but she refused and ended up having about 6 courses of antibiotics in combination to get it sorted. It was horribly painful and she was delirious with the temperature; that took about a week to go. If you don't see any improvement within 24 hours of starting the antibiotics, I would probably seek some reassurance from your GP.

Cornishmumoftwo · 07/12/2016 14:49

Yep. By this morning it had spread quite a lot more! Been back to the gp and been given different antibiotics, on a positive note my temperature has gone back down!

Promise I'm not usually as ugly as that!

Promise you will go straight to A&E if it spreads anymore! Or if your temperature goes up again!
Amputation does not work on heads.

gingeroots · 07/12/2016 16:22

I hope you saw a different GP .You poor thing .

I echo what others have said ,go to hospital/ring 111 if it gets worse .

TeddyIsaHe · 07/12/2016 17:13

You poor thing, it looks so sore. Hopefully the antibiotics kick in and calm it a bit. If not, agree with pp - get on the phone to 111 and get checked out. Cellulitis can be nasty when it's in the head / face area.

Cornishmumoftwo · 07/12/2016 18:45

Lol to head amputation! Yes I'll go through 111 if it gets worse now. Did see a different gp today who at least bothered to look to see where it started.

That looks horrid for you. I probably sound like a vit c sales person...but if you have some take it...lots of it...if not get some. Sodium absorbate or liposomal. Get well soon.
