it's DS1s birthday today - we're meant to be at london zoo as we speak - but instead i've had to drop dh at the hospital with a note for the surgical sho, as he's turned bright yellow he's had stomach trouble for the last few months, but we were thinking ibs or possibly an ulcer.

poor ds is having a crap birthday, poor dh has been abandoned at a/e - sorry btw, shift key is on strike so no capitals -and i'm going to go and dump the dcs on a friend soon so i can get back to the hospital.

has anyone had experience of this. is dh going to have to have surgery/ how bad is it going to be/

Didn't want your message to go unanswered. How awful for you all. How's he doing?

sammac · 16/02/2007 18:36

Dh had his gall bladder how about 3 years ago. It was keyhole surgery and went smoothly. he can now eat and drink anything whereas before, a lot made him unwell. He had 3 weeks of work to recover and is as good as new! Can't even see the scars(they're tiny )

Thanks

I'm a bit less stressed now I have to say (and the shift key has decided to work again!) DH has to have an ultrasound to confirm whether it was gall stones, so they've kept him in overnight to do it in the morning. What happens after that will depend on the results of the test.

I've had lots of gallstone trouble culminating in having my gall bladder removed. Turning yellow is a sign of liver problems which can happen if a stone causes a blockage. Now he is in hospital he will be fine I'm sure.

My mum had terrible gall stones. To avoid surgery, she did something similar to this Gall bladder flush a few times.

It's absolutely vile, but she passed all the gall stones through her system. It left her a bit run down, but she took some acidophollus (sp?) bacteria to get the digestive system back on track and some supplements.

She's recently had a scan and the consultant and his assistant both took notes about the flush as they were amazed she was able to fix it herself.

Just to add, I had gallstones and they were suprised that I wasn't bright yellow at the time. The stones had clogged up, not only my gallbladder but the biliary tract too. I had to have an endoscopic procedure (under sedation) that cleared the offending, obstructing stones and then a week later, had keyhole surgery to remove the gallbladder.

Hi!

I had gallstones from the age of 19 and eventually had them out when I was 23. They thought i had a bad bought of indigestion!

However, gallstones are awful. The pain is worse that labour, believe me.

I had keyhole surgery, which was really good and I recovered straight away. It was a relieve to know that I wouldn't get that awful pain again.

Good luck with it. I'm sorry DS birthday isn't going to plan.

I agree about the pain being worse than labour. I ended up screaming 'get me a f*cking ambulance' at the 999 person because she was trying to see if I was having a heart attack by asking dp questions. I knew what was happening and I just couldn't bear it, and when the ambulance bloke tried to give me gas and air I just laughed. I needed morphine and I hate morphine but it was the only thing that could deal with the pain

jhyesmum · 17/02/2007 13:39

I used to have to make myself sick to get rid of the pain. I used to have voltarol suppositaries (lovely), and tylex capsules. used to make me dog sick the next day. It also got to the stage when I had to go to emergency surgery three times a week for a pain killing injection. Bloody awful it was. Wouldn't wish gallstones on my worst enemy.

Thanks again

DH is one of those mad stoic people who puts up with everything, so I knew it must hurt by the fact that he's actually telling me it hurts iyswim. He told the nurse that it was 9 on the 1-10 pain scale He's Ok atm painwise, it's just the lethergy and the jaundice that are causing problems. he hasn't had the scan yet (apparently St Georges only have one ultrasound suite for the entire hospital over the weekend!) but from what DH has overheard it sounds like he might be having surgery on Monday. I think DH will be happy to get it over with tbh, I don't think he'd be happy to keep having episodes like this.

It's just typical that it's this weekend. We've got our washing machine, tumble dryer and fridge freezer being picked up on Monday (rented ones) and the new ones (we've bought) being delivered on Tuesday. I've now got to figure out how to unplumb everything etc myself, I'm not stupid. I'll figure it out but any other weekend to get sick would have been so much better!

Serenity - everything will come out in the wash! That's what I say!

Good luck and I hope everything turns out ok.
