Hi, I'm 20 weeks pregnant, I've been having head and chest cold for nearly two weeks now, the other night went to bed being able to hear but yesterday I woke up too having no hearing in my right ear, has this happened to anyone? Has really worried 😥

Yes, has happened to me a couple of times after a heavy cold. Very annoying, but each time it righted itself eventually. Took a while, though. Last time, I happened to be at the doctor's for a routine appt about something else, so I mentioned it. He had a look, and suggested I try drops of warm olive oil. I did, but don't know if that made any difference.

How long did it take for the non-hearing to pass as it's really annoying and feels like something is stuck I haven't got an ear wax problem, It's making me really worried got cardiac scan this week as my unborn baby has an heart defect but I'm scared that I won't be able to hear them say what's wrong with the baby

It took a few weeeks, I'm afraid. I'm sorry to hear about your baby, you don't need any other worries on top of that. I'm sure if you explain to the staff at the scan, they'll take extra care to make sure you've understood everything. Will someone be going with you?

Does tilting your head from side to side help at all?

Maybe have a word with a pharmacist or your GP, to set your mind at rest. If you have a chest infection, some antibiotics might clear it up, but in my case I didn't have an infection, just had to give it time. Was really annoying, because I'm a lecturer, and couldn't hear myself talking properly, and couldn't always hear what students said to me.

I do quite often after a cold. Can take a couple of months for mine to return fully.

Does it feel like it's popped? Like when you take of in a plane?

I've just had this with a sinus infection. My ear suddenly popped and it's just gradually getting better now after a couple of weeks.

The chemist said ear drops would do no good because the problem is on the inside bit, not the accessible bit of the ear.

It's driving me bananas!

Tilting my head to Doesn't work, I didn't hear it popped just went to bed fine then woke up not hearing anything out my right ear, been to the chemist early they recommend me going to the doctors Monday to see what they say, Doesn't hurt but just really annoying can't hear people who are in the same room as me

I don't mean to be alarmist but you need to see your gp. This happened to my husband and his hearing never came back and won't ever come back because the hairs in his inner ear are damaged. I don't really know the exact mechanics of it but it was after a virus. It was really horrible but he now where's a hearing aid and is much better. It was a big adjustment for him socially though as he was in a band and suddenly couldn't play in his band or hang out in loud pubs, he also can't hear anything if there's a lot of background noise.

Probably won't have happened to you but worth getting checked
