DS1 (18m) has been diagnosed with gastroneteritis (sp?) - he has been sick all last night (bright yellow) and all today (mostly clear) but now the most foul smelling clear mucus (sorry for being graphic) is coming out the other end - I have never smelt anything so bad! The doctor said nothing to eat and no milk for 24 hours - just water. Howver, he is pratically begging me for milk and a biscuit. Would I be doing the wrong thing to give him a small bottle of formular before bed, he has never been to bed with out one - and he seems to be running a temp, can he have some calpol?

he's not been ill since a spell in scbu when he was born so i have no clue!!

Poor chap . I wouldn't risk the milk I'm afraid. Can you offer something clear instead, or even better Diorylyte (sp), You could try a really dry plain biscuit (like Crispbread) or toast. Not sure about Calpol - trouble is if he is subsequently sick you won't know how much got into him.

Hope he feels better soon.

You should avoid anything fatty like milk, and go for clear foods. I would have thought calpol would be ok, but as LIZS says, if he is sick, you shouldn't give more. Foods like Rich Tea biscuits, toast and marmite, and maybe some mashed up banana are good things to get them eating again. If you give toast, then don't put butter on (again a fatty food). Hope he's better soon!

i definately wouln't give him milk but if he's hungry i would let him have a biscuit/toast etc but no dairy.

the calpol would probably not stay in his system long enough to work by the sound of it but i don't think it would do any harm to give him some. if he's hot cooling the room down is maybe a better idea.

hope he's feeling better soon-poor little man.(and poor you!)

Would not give him anything stronger/more solid than diluted lemonade/rehydrating fluid, and then only in small sips every 5-10 minutes. Until tomorrow at least, tbh. Speaking as veteren of many tummy bugs. Sorry. S'cat!
