Does Slimming World cause Gallstones?

Well, I'm rather stunned to say the least.

Since May I've followed slimming world and lost almost 3 stone. I'm awaiting surgery for gallstones and my doctor told me today that he suspects that following Slimming World had something to do with the cause of the stones. He also pointed the finger at Weight Watchers. He said that following a very low fat diet can stop bile from flushing away when you eat and it sits in the gallbladder and forms sludge and eventually, over time, the sludge turns to stones. The more rapid the weight loss, the higher the risk of forming stones...

Anyone else heard this?

I was told a lot of hereditary factors and my two DDs would be "at risk". Interesting both my grandma and mum had/have high cholesterol but were/are healthy BMI, I was told this can be a risk factor for gall stones? Yet I've had my cholesterol measured several times and it's ok.

Yep lost 3st in weight and gained gallstones. On my first attack I thought I was dying, had gallstones removed.

Sympathies OP. I had my gallbladder out in June after unbelievably painful attacks. I had lost quite a bit of weight very quickly a couple of years earlier through low carbing but I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

This has just happened to me, I am a male of 55 and joined slimming world in Jan 19 with my daughter, I lost just short of 2 stone, When I did have a Kebab as a treat I ended up in so much pain apparently as above The bile in my Gall bladder has turned into a gritty gunge due to a lack of fat. My Gall bladder got inflamed and caused a infection in my body , I was in hospital for about 6 days. I am now at home waiting to have my Gall bladder removed.

I was already fairly slim but then lost significant amount of weight when DH diagnosed with serious illness = gallbladder removal
