Fibroadenoma removal

Hi everyone,

Had a hospital app today which confirmed that my initial fibroadenoma has grown and there is a second lump (not yet biopsied) underneath. The consulatant has agreed to remove them as they are becoming visible as they stick out so much and will probably still grow (currently measuring about 5cmx4cm).

The consultant said she would make the incision along my areola to minimise scarring which is good.

I've never had an operation before so feeling a little bit nervous. Has anyone had this procedure who can advise on what to expect?

I had this done years ago.
To be honest, I can't really remember much about it but I got out of hospital the same day I was only off work for 5 days.
Please try not to worry too much, I hope that someone with more experience comes along to give you more advice.

I should have said, I don't have a noticeable scar at all, the incision was made just at the areole and although I'm aware of it my dh can't remember what side it was.

Thanks ready that's really helpful. I'd assumed I'd be back at work the next day- maybe that is a bit optimistic!

I had my operation on the Wednesday, went back on the Monday.
I work in a nursery though so they were concerned about the kids climbing on me etc. Depending on what you do it may be different. Try not to worry too much, best of luck

I had one removed last year that was massive and so they thought that where they would have to cut would leave the scarring visible. They actually cut about 1cm around the areola so its o only visible to me and DP! Recovery was quick but I think in your line of work you might want to avoid any bashing and tight cuddles for a few days.

I had my first fibroadenoma removed with an incision around the areola and when I went back to have some new ones removed (vacuum extraction), the surgeon couldn't see where the first op had been done.
