Chicken pox - should I avoid seeing my friend?

Hi

My friend is due to visit in 1/2 term nes week with her three kids. They've recently been exposed to chicken pox, but have not yet developed any symptoms, this is the time they would be infectious. Anyway, I have a 3 month old son, and am not sure if we should postpone the visit. I'm breastfeeding (not sure if that makes any difference). Any advice would be great

Cheers

depends on whether you want to risk getting it.

Your babe could get it but not severe and then get it again later on anyway.

Personally, I would avoid. But then I am a whimp when it comes to illnesses.

If you've had chicken pox you will probably be passing on some antibodies to your son, so he might not get it too badly. although as poppiesinaline says, he could get it again later (possible if they get it for the first time in their first year). I caught chicken pox when my ds was 3 months and passed it on to him - he had it pretty bad - twas not nice.

chicken pox can actually be quite dangerous. They vaccinate against it in the States. But it is better to get it when you are young rather than in adulthood.

I would rather a 2-5 year old get it though rather than a baby.

My DS has it at the minute. I have a baby DD so we have no choice but to expose her to it! I'm not worried.

Thing is, her kids might not even get chicken pox. Also you're at just as much risk of catching it from someone in the shops!
