ds2 (7) keeps on having tummy pains and chest pains.

it has been going on for months.

sometimes it is every night and then he seems fine every following day time.

sometimes i wonder if he is making it up, like when he has done it at bedtime
about 5 nights in row but sometimes he seems very genuine.

today and yesterday he has said it a couple of times each day and last night thought he was going to be sick.
seems to only last a short while though and then he is playing again.

i have been to the gp twice already who said he doubted it was anything to worry about.

it is really stressing me out though, i have been out twice where i have had to bring him home and i have no evenings because i am trying to comfort him in bed etc.

what do i do?

Not sure but could it be indigestion / heartburn / acid reflux?

Both DH & I suffer from it and typically it comes on in the evening, is worse lying down (e.g. in bed), makes you feel sick, and in my case causes stomach pains.

I find fatty foods realy set it off and in fact even as a kid, I regularly used to throw up after my Mum cooked a traditonal fry-up.

i don't know,

his descriptions are a bit peculiar, it can be on one side, or, in the middle of his tummy and then up under his ribs too.

at breakfast he said it hurt when he was breathing in ans indicated his left side under the rib and later it was in the middle of his tummy.

sometimes he says up near his throat aswell, so, i suppose that could be heartburn.

don't know what i should do with him.

My dd used to complain of tummy pains when she was younger than your ds (maybe 3 or so). I think with her it was partly delaying tactics at bedtime/attention seeking or maybe having slight indigestion and not knowing how to decribe it.

Do you think you could have a long chat with your ds and try to get him to tell you if he is making it up (maybe because he likes all the extra bedtime cuddles) - tell him you are worried and really need to know if he is actually feeling ill.

If you think it is genuine you should go back to the gp again - even if it is just something like heartburn you probably need the gp to tell you what medication he can take....

yeah thanx, i have talked to him alot and he maintains he isn't making it up.

sometimes it does seem to be at a time when like you say he could use it for extra attention but other times it's whilst he is getting attention so no reason to lie.

when i said about the chest pains the gp suggested we see the asthma nurse, he has an inhaler during the hayfever season. but, really she isn't much use.

oh and tonight, a pain in his shoulder??

just feel like gp will think god not her again as i have been twice now!

thanx for taking time to try and help

Hi
Why not keep a diary to show the GP so they can see how often it is happening? The problem is that if you don't keep going back to the GP they will assume it's not a problem or has got better.
If you keep going back at least they will do something if only to get you off their backs!
good luck - hope it gets sorted out soon

thanx i will do that

Could you try some milk of magnesia or similar (not sure what a 7 year old can have) to see if it eases.

The symptoms sound so much like something to do with digestion! Heartburn gives me pain in my chest - sometimes like a kind of stitch?

I agree about keeping a diary. make a note of what he ahs eaten, and when, too.
