I have a serious Virginal Prolaspe. Although I am not in any pain or discomfort I have been told I need a operation to correct it. I am very nervous about it, has anyone had one? Was it as bad as my mind is making it out to be? Was there any side effects? Advice and experiences please

Just having my dinner (at home now, in bed) then I'll take some of my movicol so that isn't a problem :)

They let you home! Well done!

I'm amazed tbh!

To give a bit more detail now I'm fully compos mentis... I went in Saturday morning and was nil by mouth. Had bloods and urine tests done while waiting to go in, then went in for surgery at about 1. They said the op would take about 90mins and then half hour to wake up, I think it was just before 4 when I did wake up. They decided to only do the posterior repair while they were in.
I felt fine tbh, a bit uncomfortable but nothing like I was expecting. They gave me morphine during the op and an antibiotic, and I had a catheter in and they had packed the wound. I'm on a load of painkillers already, so don't know how much they helped, but I only had paracetamol afterwards. The only trouble I had sleeping sat night was that I was a bit uncomfortable stuck still on my back, due to the catheter. I had a maternity pad on and was on a bedding pad thing due to the lack of underwear, and the nurses had to check the blood loss a few times.

Next morning the catheter was taken out (didn't feel that) and the packing was taken out from my vagina. That was rather uncomfortable but didn't hurt at all. My first wee after had to be tested so it was accompanied, but after that I could pee freely (which was often as I was drinking loads!). Weeing doesn't hurt at all, it's just (due to the swelling) a bit difficult to get the last few squeezes out. It is - even without them operating on the anterior fault - so much easier to wee already!! I am (tmi!) yet to test how much easier it is to poo.

Anyway, shortly after that I had some more bloods done and was taken for a shower. They were very happy with how I was/am doing so said they were perfectly happy for me to go home. So that is now where I am, under instruction to relax and very very strictly not to lift anything. :) oh and to keep my DVT socks on Grin

Oh that first poo...

BeyondTheHarpy · 22/11/2016 13:13

It was a success, pkl Grin

My mum had it done . 6 weeks recovery. No lifting etc for a while. She keeps telling me it hereditary. I am hoping my 2 csections saved me! Anyway they didn't examine her just before the op because 'they knew what they were doing' from the appt 3 months ago. Anyway whilst operating there was something else that needed doing and she hadn't signed off on this so they couldn't! So just make sure you give enough permissions!!

Hi ladies,
Anyone still around? Having surgery tomorrow and like reading all the positive stories!

chatnanny · 09/03/2017 21:04

Poohsticks I am also watching with interest and have read all the threads which came up when I searched "prolapse" in MN. I am due surgery in May, seeing the surgeon soon to plan exactly what is involved. Good luck tomorrow, a dear friend of mine is also having a hysterectomy (with ovaries) tomorrow for endometrial cancer which kind of puts my mechanical issues into perspective! Best wishes and I shall look forward to hearing your progress.
