I've had acid reflux since September, I was on omeprozole and now I'm on Lansoprazole. I've gone from 30mg to 15mg and I wasn't suffering on 30mg but now I'm waking up every morning with a burning throat. It's making me not want to eat at all and I'm already borderline underweight. I'm miserable. I don't want to go up to 30mg again as I feel like I'll never get off these damn pills if I don't reduce them. Anyone tried reducing their dosage? Does the rebound calm down after a while?

Any other ideas/diets? I'm tempted to try low carb diet to see if that helps. Nothing I eat seems to make it better. I'm trying to limit caffeine and only drink once a week though haven't had a drink since this throat burning at all. I also have IBS so avoid wheat and only have milk in my tea/coffee. I'm also taking apple cider vinegar but it doesn't seem to help much.

Has anyone had trouble swallowing and feeling food stuck in throat and chest I am sure I've had silent reflux for years. Got to have emergency endoscopy on Monday and I am so scared I have esophagal cancer as I can't even eat pasta now I'm living on soup Ive cream and houmous and quaver crisps. Diet coke seems to give me relief also gaviscon max I'm also on 40mg of omoprazole doesn't seem to help the swallowing issues. I am so scared I've tried all day convinced it's cancer 😭

Ditch the diet coke, might help in the very short term but anything gassy is a disaster.

Sounds like classic reflux, try not to panic .

@Sunnynat16 good luck on Monday ,I hope it's nothing serious .

I've had oesphageal cancer and they were pretty clear that's what it was on the day of the endoscopy .Though biopsy results confirmed it .

If you have any questions just ask ,PM if you like .

Hi thankyou for replying it's so kind of you to share that with me. I hope your doing ok now I have tried to pm you and can't seem too I am fairly new to this site so maybe I'm not doing it right?

Are you chewing gum, sounds mad but it really helps neutralise the acid and relieve the choking feeling.

Sunnynat16 · 11/05/2023 10:46

Hi no I haven't tried that yet I will today. It feels like when I eat food that's not soft it sticks at bottom of throat them I can feel it going down sometimes it sticks at my chest and feels like indigestion did you have any of these symptoms ?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/05/2023 10:50

Yes,classic reflux, it's horrible. Chew gum after every meal for at least 15 minutes, it really helps me. I always have it in my bag now.

MrsVeryTired · 11/05/2023 12:33

Same as @Brillig I've cut all acidic foods (tomatoes, citrus, anything spicy) and take Omeprazole daily and it works. Except when I can't resist something tasty and tomatoey and regret it a few hours later 😣

Zombie thread
@Sunnynat16 you've had some replies but might be useful to start your own thread rather than bumping an old one

@Sunnynat16 how did the endoscopy go? Did they tell you anything?
My reflux has got better with eating less processed foods and lowering carbs. Weirdly I get awful symptoms with anything with rice or like any meal with meat and sauce and rice or potatoes etc, or pasta. I think- they say- sometimes people dont digest carbs well, then the bloating pushes the gut up and causes reflux. Seems to be helping me anyway. Plus slippery elm- great for coating the oesophagus- you can sip the tea or buy supplements.
