...it's awful. Usually metanium sorts it out really quickly but it's just not working at the moment. He did an awful poo this morning - he said 'poo poo' in the car on the way home so it probably took me about 1/2 hour to change it (by the time we got home) ARGH! When is it so bad that you take them to the doctors? Poor little monkey, it looks so sore

turn the heating up, stay in doors for 24 hours, get the detol and the J cloths handy and let him be nappyless. It's the only way to sort it out

Ditch the wipes, and wash gently with mild soap and water.

Leave it to air as much as possible.

Try a little bit of Canesten cream as often nappy rash gets thrush in it.

Sympathies - this happens to DS3 once in a while.

Furball · 12/02/2007 12:53

leave the nappy of for a while and give the skin some air. don't use wet wipes just cotton wool and water, pat dry and leave for an airing.

Agree with sw and dinosaur and this thread has some good suggestions (esp the oats in the bath) .

I can sympathise- DS has been like this. I ditched wipes and used cotton wool / sometimes lotion instead, and stopped putting any bubbles etc in his bath. Nappy off time is good. Before bed i put on a little bit of nappy rash cream, followed by a liberal smear of vaseline to stop wee sitting against his skin at night.

any chance that a new food may have caused it? my DS reacted badly to oranges with terrible rash.

Strong camomile tea (applied externally not internally!) always works for my dd - she's never had it as bad as yours, but might be worth a try

Blimey there's so much differing advice (looked at other thread too) I don't know where to start I think I'll try air-drying (gulp!) and see how it goes. Thanks.

There is a spray designed for bedsores called sprilon, I have managed to get it on pescription before as it's about £6 a spray tin. It very good as it gives very light coverage yet completely waterproof. HTH
