I'm a recent convert to Echinecea for myself and the junior form for dds, and have found out most people use it! Well noboby told me!! What other secret health tips do people have for those "bugged up" times!?

I take Acidopholis (sp?) capsules, available from Holland & Barrett, they contain good bacteria similar to the yoghurt type drinks, Actimel etc. They work out alot cheaper and if you have a dodgy stomach you can take a handful of them rather than having to drink loads of these drinks. I believe they are very good for you if you are taking antibiotics, they replenish the good bacteria in the bowel that the antibiotics kill off. Also apparently good to take when breastfeeding, can help colic but I haven't tried this yet.

batey,

I am also a recent convert to echinacea, but I'm not sure how often should you take it? Do you take a course of it very now and then?

My HV also says that garlic is a good natural antibiotic to give to babies but I haven't tried it out....

chiara71, garlic and onions are supposed to be great. I love garlic and so does my dd (8.5 months) !

I love echinacea too, but have given up the daily dose of it until the winter months OR if I see any symptoms of a cold in me or dd. I read that you should only take it constantly for 3 months at a time, but I think it varies depending on who you ask...!

I found that a course of amino acids (looked up in a book called 'the diet cure' really helped me to get focussed mentally and physically this time last year. Again, you only take specific ones for a course of a month or two but they really helped me get back on track health-wise. I'm thinking about doing another course because I'm feeling a bit, for want of a better word, crappy at the moment and could do with a bit of brain fuel for my impending exams! Really worth a try but a bit pricey, I had to spend approx. £20 for a months supply - but it wasn't a waste of money at all. I took l-tyrosine, 5-HTP and l-glutamine - magic!
(PS They also helped me lose weight by wanting to eat 'good' food over rubbish!)

I take echinecea when I/we get under the weather. Recently had bad sore throat and felt like something was brewing, took 2 capsueles (sp?) 3x a day for a week a it never took ahold.
