Mooncup is my cervix meant to be inside it? (TMI)

I used a mooncup before DC (1&1/2) no problem. I finally decided to go back to them today and got the bigger size.

I had a bit of a leak earlier so I decided to stick a finger up and check the seal. It seems my cervix is really low (about 1cm in) so the cervix is now hanging over the side into the cup IYSWIM. Am I doing it wrong?

Your cervix is only 1 cm up your vulva? or have I misunderstood?

Rolocookies · 28/10/2016 21:50

That's correct. About half a finger tip before I can feel it. Is that really weird?

Now I'm not sure. This is so embarrassing but the vulva is the outside and the vagina is the hole right? So it's 1cm up the vagina.

Do you have a prolapse?

idontlikealdi · 28/10/2016 21:52

I do t have any experience with mooncup but 1cm up your vagina sounds like a prolapse of some sort.

mudandmayhem01 · 28/10/2016 21:52

That doesn't sound right, it might be worth getting that checked, not an expert but that sounds like a prolapse.

Somerville · 28/10/2016 21:52

I'm only an expert in my own anatomy. So wouldn't like to say if it's weird. It's certainly not something I've ever experienced.

How old is your youngest child?

Lovelybangers · 28/10/2016 21:54

I use a mooncup. Mine goes up much further than that.

Are you sure it's your cervix?

Rolocookies · 28/10/2016 21:55

Oh Shock. I have 1 child. 18 months old. The nurse checked my stitches after and never mentioned anything. It's not always so low, but I thought it was normal for them to move higher and lower throughout the month.

If it's like that now and it wasn't like that before, you need to get thee to the GP. Sounds like a prolapse of some variety.

Don't despair. I had one after dc3 and it went away after a few months and lots of pelvic floor exercises.

Qwerdy1234 · 28/10/2016 21:56

I have a big sort of lump at the entrance of my vagina I didn't have previous kids. Is it something like that that you are feeling? Can you go deeper in or has your actual cervix come down?

NickNacks · 28/10/2016 21:57

Even when it's at its lowest it's still a fair way up. (3 inches?)

Rolocookies · 28/10/2016 22:03

I just went back to the bathroom and I think you're right. I'm pretty confident it's my cervix. I used to check my dilation in the late stages of pregnancy. I can't do pelvic floor exercises they make me feel faint (I do realise how ridiculous that makes me sound) I've had bladder incontinence since being a very young child.

What would happen if I just ignored it?

OP posts:
Somerville · 28/10/2016 22:11

Please don't just ignore it.

It could prolapse so far that it protrudes beyond your vagina. Then you'd get all sorts of infections and ulcers - as well as pain from rubbing against it.

NickNacks · 28/10/2016 22:11

It will get worse. It's very common, please see you GP. They will have seen it before and can help.

Whoknowswhoknows · 28/10/2016 22:11

Please don't ignore it. Try and get help with your pelvic floor exercises - are you holding your breath while doing them, is that what makes you feel faint? A prolapse can be vastly improved if you can strengthen your pelvic floor or can cause life-long problems, OP, I'm sorry. I don't want to frighten you but please do try to get some advice. You can ask your GP for a referral to a women's physio who specialises in this problem.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/10/2016 22:13

OP, my cervix sits inside my cup too, it's a PITA as it takes up space so I have to empty more frequently.

If you just ignore it it may get worse/better/or stay the same. If you are really uncomfortable with going to the doc.you could monitor for a few cycles. My cervix is way lower since DD but seems stable IYSWIM.

colouringinagain · 28/10/2016 22:17

Please don't ignore it. It does sound like a prolapse and the sooner you speak to a GP the better in my experience. Take care.

CaptainMorgansMistress · 28/10/2016 22:17

There are loads of options to help do your pelvic floors - an electrical stimulator, a weighted thing to 'hold', a tube that you squeeze, all sorts.

However before you do anything like that you need to go to your GP and figure out if there's a problem an drew if so, what. Then you can plan what to do

Rolocookies · 28/10/2016 22:21

Thank you for all your advice. I can't face a GP at the best of times but I'll keep an eye on it.
