No, no, no!!! You can get cream from the chemist, Preparation H, Anusol, that kind of thing. Will clear it up nicely. Up the fibre in your diet and drinks lots of water so you don't have to strain and make it any worse.

Huge congrats on baby rhino btw!!

TrinityRhino · 10/02/2007 16:31

Phew

Sooner the better I would say, but it's up to you

Oati · 10/02/2007 16:35

TR - they are very common in pregnant women and often disappear soon after the birth see here Take beansprout's advice and you will be fine

Oati · 10/02/2007 16:36

and here

don't know what you've been googling

PrettyCandles · 10/02/2007 16:42

No, don't worry, it's perfectly normal after childbirth. The only time I have them is after giving birth, and I've had them after each child. They are a pain though.

Do as beansprout says, also do uyor pelvic floor exercises. If you visualise drawing the pile up inside while doing the PFE you will help it shrink and retract. You can also wet your finger (no nails! ) and gently push it back while drawing yourself in and up IYSWIM. It will keep coming out again, but is less uncomfortable/painful inside, IME. If the over-the-counter remedies don't help within a week or two, go to the GP and ask for Proctosedyl ointment - aaaaaahhhhhh, the relief .

Remember to get a cream suitable for use in pregnancy. Anusol is OK. When I went to get some, the pharmacist was obviously having a bad day: "can you recommend a pile cream suitable for use in pregnacy please" I asked her in my best hushed voice. She turned round and at the top of her lungs bellowed to her colleague at the back of the shop "which haemorroid cream can you use whilst you're pregnant Mary?" and an equally loud reply came back "anusol is OK" I don't know who was more embarrassed, me or the other customers!! (I think you can buy it in supermarkets too, which might be easier!!!)

I guess I should feel lucky that I've never had one beforeconsidering I have IBS and have been very constipated quite alot cause of that and have had 2 children before. getting my first one now seems lucky

and you get to keep it forever

TrinityRhino · 10/02/2007 16:58

IO thought I was going to get rid of it with the cream, don't start scaring me now

AllieBongo · 10/02/2007 17:00

unfortunately, generally once percy the pile has descended he likes to visit after other bowel incidents such as diaorrhea or constipation, he may occasionally bleed also. If it gets really itchy or sore your GP can give you some stronger cream

TrinityRhino · 10/02/2007 17:09

rofl @ 'he likes to visit after other bowel incidents'

oh well, I'll name it something gecko-like in honour of the little one and become friends with it

Farmer Giles?

PrettyCandles · 10/02/2007 17:10

Don't scare the poor post-natal woman, AB. FWIW, I have only ever had piles 3 times - 2 were immediately post-labour, and the third time the pile made its appearance a few weeks before I gave birth to child no3. While I don't generally have bowel problems I have had bouts of constipation or diarrhoea and have never pushed a pile out as a result. Yes, the weakness in the bowel is there forever, but that doesn't mean that it will keep coming back.

sorry pc
