Throat has felt weird and I've been really tired for nearly 4 weeks - could it be a thyroid thing?

Thought it was a end of term cold or something but it hasn't got worse or better for weeks. Throat feels sort of achey and odd without being particularly sore. My voice is croaky for at least the first part of every day and if I take the kids out or do anything completely normal I feel wiped out, which is not like me!

It's only just occurred to me that it could be thyroid related. I've been tested for it a few times over the years but tests have always come back normal.

I just don't feel quite right, not quite present in the moment of anything I'm doing, a bit fuzzy. My ears feel odd, my legs are bit achy, I've had weird sharp pains in my sides/pelvis, my stomach isn't right and my gallstone which is normally silent has been twingeing a fair bit this week. I'm cold all the time but I always have been! Had palpitations for ages yesterday but again that's been happening to me for ages. But nothing is bad enough to say I'm actually poorly, I can soldier on, just feel odd!

Does this ring bells with anyone? I don't go to the doctor really, don't want to pitch up and go 'Hi, I feel odd' and look like an idiot!

It feels like something on the left side of my throat when I swallow. Weird.

Get a dr appointment and see what they say x

IHeartKingThistle · 30/10/2016 16:27

I need to! You have to ring on the day at my GP so I'll be hovering over the phone at 7.59 if I can wake up!

Headache now, ears hurt and my eyes feel weird. Argh

I have a lot of what you described OP. Antibiotics didn't shift it. The worst part is feeling utterly exhausted all the time and unable to do anything- so tired I could cry. If I try and do anything I then get dizzy, sore throat, feel hot, ear ache comes back. I then have to lie down for hours to recover!
After my 3rd visit to the doctors in a month, he thinks I have glandular fever and I have to go back for blood tests. He determined this by looking in my throat and then making me lie down and pressing on the left hand side of my stomach. It really hurt. Apparently this is due to an enlarged spleen which is a test for glandular fever. Blood tests will also show if it is for thyroid or anaemia.

Hope you feel better soon. I would go to the doctors ASAP!

Gaaargh! Am totally fed up. Throat still sore with odd intensely sore 'patches' around outer throats near glands. Thrust doesn't look healthy but doesn't look like strep theist either! Confused it looks slightly yellow. Am going back to gp again to check if it is strep throats or not. Still not sleeping well despite pills. Still anxious to the highest!

Haggisfish · 30/10/2016 21:07

Throat, not thrust or threist! Grin

Haggisfish · 31/10/2016 02:53

Actually, having had another look at my throat, I think it might be strep throat. Back to gp again!

IHeartKingThistle · 31/10/2016 08:30

Woke up sweaty and shaky and feeling very sick. Managed to get an appointment for this morning so will pour out my tale of woe!

OP posts:
IHeartKingThistle · 31/10/2016 17:41

Well they're testing my blood for all the things you have suggested! We'll see. Am fit for nothing today. Managed appointment then came home and slept until I had to do the school run. Ridiculous. I'm supposed to be in work tomorrow Sad

Haggisfish · 31/10/2016 17:45

I went to gp to be told it's globus hystericus-psychosomatic, essentially. I'm not convinced. Will see what privAte blood tests show. Hope our tests show something that explains our feeling crap while also being easy to treat.Grin

IHeartKingThistle · 31/10/2016 18:02

That's the dream Grin

HappyAxolotl wins - it's low vitamin D. Can't believe that can make you feel so rough! I have to take it for a month. Thanks x

IHeartKingThistle · 04/11/2016 19:19

I am confused though - I've just googled how to get more vitamin D and this year I should have had loads! After years of avoiding the sun I found myself loving it this summer and spent loads of time gardening without sunblock. Got my first sort of tan ever, although I'm still pale! And all the foods that have loads of vit D are the kind of foods I eat all the time (OK, except beef liver!). So why do I have low vitamin D? What causes it?

OP posts:
Groovee · 04/11/2016 19:43

Glad you know what caused you feeling poorly. No idea. After a holiday to Florida I felt awesome.

IHeartKingThistle · 07/11/2016 19:59

I still feel rubbish. Think it's going to take a while Sad

OP posts:
Haggisfish · 07/11/2016 21:14

I still feel crap too. I think low vitamin d is a symptom, not a cause. WHY do thyroid issues cause low vit d and ferritin and vit b? Without tackling the thyroid problem, I think we are doomed to feel crap because it will be affecting other things we can't detect and 'treat' like the more obvious vitamin deficiencies.

IHeartKingThistle · 07/11/2016 21:18

Sorry to hear that haggisfish. I wonder if I should ask for the actual test results?

Sorry if my message here is uncalled for but....

Two years ago I had what apparently was bad tonsillitis that had caused reactive arthritis. My ears swelled. My voice was hoarse and my skin blistered. Eyes went dodgy and i felt like death. I also had low Vit D.

I was, after a year, diagnosed with Relapsing Polychondritis. Its extremely rare, but if you can't get to the bottom of it perhaps try to get to a rheumatologist?

tigerdriverII · 07/11/2016 21:54

Could be Epstein Barr. I had this a few years ago, after a fairly innocuous sore throat. It lasted a while but I woke up one morning to find it gone. Just had to really pace myself and accept the fatigue.

IHeartKingThistle · 07/11/2016 22:15

Gosh RP that sounds horrendous. This time last year I was tested for rheumatoid arthritis due to stiff painful hands, feet and knees. Everything came back negative and it went away after a few weeks. Was weird though. I was also tested for Lyme disease as I was bitten by a tick last summer and only thought to mention it then. Also negative. Isn't Epstein Barr glandular fever? That came back negative this week.

My throat and ears still feel odd but not particularly painful. Does low vitamin D cause that? Seems odd.

I'm just never usually ill this often. I do wonder if it could all be linked.

Just fed up now. Did a full day at work today for the first time since half term and halfway through this afternoon's meeting I just lost concentration, flagged completely. And yet I'm finding it really hard to sleep. AArgh. Thanks so much for your responses. DH has gone away with work this afternoon for 10 days and I don't know how I'm going to do this without exhausting myself.

RP1234 · 07/11/2016 22:31

Someone might be able to put me right on this, but if they have tested you for RA, then I assume they test for inflammation markers. I'm which case if they aren't raised then RP isnt a problem!

Just keep on at your GP! You're not well so make him/her sort it out!!

IHeartKingThistle · 07/11/2016 22:36

Yes I think they did test for inflammation.

Thanks. They said take the vit D for a month so I can't imagine they'll be interested until the month is up. I know it takes a while to get levels up. It's just that the throat thing doesn't fit and I can't take a step back for a month! I teach adults and it's almost impossible to get cover. DC keep asking when I will be feeling better. Sorry, just feeling sorry for myself. It could be a lot worse, I know that.

OP posts:
RP1234 · 07/11/2016 22:43

Youre entitled to feel sorry for yourself! My year waiting for diagnosis was just hell.

And I have to say, when i think about this disease now i can get all sorry for myself!

IHeartKingThistle · 07/11/2016 22:44

It does sound awful Flowers

OP posts:
IHeartKingThistle · 08/11/2016 13:14

I have decided I need to stop worrying. I'm going to take the vitamin D for a month then go from there. If I'm no better I might raise Lyme disease with them again - I know there are lots of false negatives and my symptoms fit.

But for now, I take the vitamins and stop worrying.
