Surgery refusing to give my 2 year old a flu vaccine. Is that correct?

Both my wife and i have called our local surgery to ask if our 2 year old can have a flu vaccine. They told us both that they only give jnder 2s vaccines and at risk over 2s. I find this hard to believe. Their own webpage says it is important for under 5s to have vacci es every year

I want to make a huge fuss but thought i better check facts first. Thanks

My 2 and a half year old was given the flu vaccine, no reason for her to be classed as at risk as far as I know.

Whyhellodaffodil · 27/10/2016 12:56

We had a letter from the health board offering our 3 year old the flu spray a month ago - no restrictions here (Wales)

OhFuds · 27/10/2016 12:57

I've had a letter to take my 2.5yr old for her flu vaccine.

Screamer1 · 27/10/2016 12:57

Mine says the other way round Confusedso only at risk under 2s.

My 2 year old has his this morning

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 27/10/2016 12:57

My 7 year old is being given it through school. She isn't high risk.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/pages/child-flu-vaccine.aspx

This is the NHS information for the flu spray

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 27/10/2016 13:00

Well the NHS tv advert that's airing in my area (South Warwickshire but it may well be a national advert) is stating all 2 ,3 & 4 year olds can go to gp surgery to get it. For 4yo in reception up to y3 it's taking place in schools.

Eyre89 · 27/10/2016 13:01

Posted too soon sorry missed your link but your two year old should have it based on their website.

Mine did, did you show them the website?

dance621 · 27/10/2016 13:02

This is the same surgery (boundary house in bracknell) that told me i cant have a vasectomy under the nhs becuase "birth control for men isnt as important for men as women". Which i am pretty sure is also inaccurate info. It is the receptionists giving me this info.

My surgery had a flu clinic day just for children. Can you ask to speak to the practice management?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 27/10/2016 13:08

Well how dare you take responsibility for birth control Hmm

Could you switch surgeries?

Maybe see if there's a drop in clinic near you that's doing the nasal sprays?

polkadotdelight · 27/10/2016 13:14

My surgery has a sign givingbthe dates on the NHS website so although DS is 2 now he was 23 months on 31st Aug and so not eligible.

LetsSplashMummy · 27/10/2016 13:16

There is a cut off date - if he has only just turned 2 (since 1st Sept) then he is eligible from next year.

polkadotdelight · 27/10/2016 13:19

To be honest if he was old enough to understand the prospect of a nasal vaccine he would be bouncing with glee that he fell a month short this year.

FrayedHem · 27/10/2016 13:26

They had to be 2 as of 31 August to be eligible.

dance621 · 27/10/2016 13:32

Yup, i phoned again and clarified. The receptionist had given the wrong infomation. The reason he is not eligible is because he is too young. Not too old. At risk under 2s not at risk over 2s. Nhs receprionists! Top of my "reprogramming" initiative list when i become president.
