HELP QUICK - Ds2 has banged his head

Ds2 (6 months) has just fallen forward whilst sat on the floor with dh and he's banged his head on a plastic piece of train track. He's got three dents in his head and he's screaming and holding his breath.

I've used a cold compress and I need to know if it's okay to put arnica on. It's not open just bruising very quickly.

Help please!

Id def try arnica, if he gets sleepy or sick go to the doctor

If I phone NHS direct they'll tell me to take him to A&E. I've just put arnica on but it's bruised really badly and his eye has gone all puffy. It feels squidgy under the skin but he's calmed down now and is smiling again.

This worried mother is very protective of her ds2

If he didn't lose consciousness and isn't drowsy or vomiting then I'd just keep an eye on him too. Crying and brusing are all good signs I think. Presumably he didn't fall very far? If you're really worred take him to A&E though. Poor him and you!

And if he's smiling then I'd say very likely he's fine too. Same caveats as sobernow, I'm not a medical professional either, just what I'd do.

I've had to put him to bed because he's so tired from not sleeping this afternoon. He didn't fall very far he was sat down and just leaned forward and over balanced. I doubt he'd have hurt himself much at all if he hadn't fallen on the train track. It's quite sharp to stand on and I always curse ds1 for making me build it up all around his room when I do. Ds2 loves watching the trains going round so dh was sat with him and he just took his eye off him for a second to see what ds1 was showing him and that's all it took. He's got three deep lines of brusing. I'll keep checking on him every hour until I go to bed and then again during the night. He'll have a cracking bruise in the morning. No doubt the first of many.

I stopped worrying about what people thought when I had to take ds1 out in public in shorts. It's hard to know what's dirt and what's bruises. Although the nextdoor neighbours kid is lucky he didn't get a broken leg tonight when ds1 ran him over in his motorised go-kart doing about 7mph. He'll have a very nasty bruise in the morning.

and its probably the first of many...just wait until he starts crawling

Flip, when dd was 4 mos old, I was breastfeeding her in bed, then stood up to put her in the cot, and whacked her head against the corner of the bedside table- she had a corner shaped dent in her head for 24 hours or so, but was none the worse for it- babies are very resilient!
