Unexplained bruising

Since my daughter was born 4 months ago I keep finding bruises on my body, usually on the backs of my legs. I have absolutely no recollection of bumping or hurting myself and they don't even hurt despite looking horrendous. For the most part I don't even notice them myself, my husband often points it out and asks how I did it. I've just found a really dark blue/purple/ red bruise on the back of my thigh which is about the size of a table tennis ball and there's a small lump underneath. I can't even feel it if I press on it. Is this normal? Am I just being clumsy without realising it?

Possibly just clumsiness, but you should see your GP. They might want to do a blood test.

Could you be bashing yourself trying to get the folded buggy into the car, or clambering over car seats to strap her in, or trying to unfold the buggy one-handed. And maybe you are not noticing because you are focused on the baby...

I woke up one day a couple of years ago with bruises all down both legs. Really very odd as I hadn't bashed them and it was down both legs. Got a same day GP appt who ran a heap of blood tests but nothing was wrong. They soon enough went away and that was it. Might be worth seeing GP just to put your mind at rest ?

I think you should speak to your GP, OP, just to rule things out, but it's likely you're just knocking yourself without realising.

I did think I was probably bashing myself but not realising because I'm focussing on something else while I'm doing it, but it seems weird that this latest bruise is completely pain free and there's a small lump - do bruises normally have lumps? I've never really felt a bruise too much before because I guess the pain makes you leave it alone.

I remember when my son was small having massive bruises on the side and backs of my thighs all the time. I never remembered doing it because I was always rushing here there and everywhere and trying to get a bloody car seat in and out of a two door car.

If you are worried get it checked out but it sounds like clumsiness to me,

When I was teaching I always had tons of bruises on my legs and that was due to banging into the corner of desks.

If you really can't think where they've come from, you need to see the doctor, OP. They won't think you're wasting their time.

My sister had this when younger - sudden unexplained bruising. She ended up rushed to hospital with a platlet count just 1% of what it should have been and immensely fortunate that she hadn't incurred an uncontrolled bleed. It is definitely worth getting it checked out as soon as you can. Chances are it is nothin as serious but not worth risking it. I would be very slow to attribute it to clumsiness, especially if you haven't been clumsy before and it would be a very odd clumsiness that affected the back of your legs in particular - people usually stumble forward into things of clumsy, not backwards. Best wishes.

Could be something simple like a vitamin deficiency but worth getting checked out.

I have this, bruises appearing overnight it seems. Not linked to anything sinister so don't worry. To put your mind at rest you can do to the GP and ask for a blood test for vitamin definicency.

If you have given something a massive whack it can leave a lump behind. But again if worried go to the GP.

Thanks all, I'll try to get an appointment with the GP next week. Vitamin deficiency could make sense with pregnancy and breastfeeding.
