I have recurring mouth ulcers, been to the doctor, all they do is prescribe me steroids and say use some mouthwash but nothing is helping and once again sitting here not being able to talk with about 4 of them in my mouth is unbearable. Also, I don't remember a time where I didn't have them. Always in pain, always there.

Could do with some help to ease the pain or any suggestions on what I should I do pleaseeee. Sad

Orajel max. It's like extra strong bonjela I've only used it for toothache but I'm positive it's for ulcers as well.

It's about a fiver behind the chemist counter usually. The strongest over the counter pain killer is nurofen plus which is ibrufen and codeine (12mg) can be took with paracetamol.

I've had a lot of dental work if you can't tell.

FlorisApple · 22/10/2016 06:23

God, that sounds awful - my sympathies. I get them when I'm run down and they are really painful. Have you tried oil pulling with coconut oil? It's kind of a gross feeling, but since it's a anti-fungal and anti-septic, but without alcohol or anything astringent like a mouthwash, it could be worth a try, and might give you some immediate relief. Also maybe some plain yogurt with probiotics in it?

CanuckBC · 22/10/2016 07:23

Have you gone to any specialists to rule out any other issues ie rheumatologist etc? They can be signs of other issues. I was put on a mee to help as I was having re-current ones. If I can remember the name or find it I will post it here.

sprinklesofweirdness · 22/10/2016 10:18

Cancuck I am currently referred to an oral surgeon as there isn't a place for recurring mouth ulcers, I have begged for testing but they are refusing to, just prescribing me steroids that do not work Sad

Too anyone who asks about the medication, I don't take anything, nothing for my heart or anxiety. And I have tried all the doctor has prescribed steroid wise I took them, didn't help so I have chose not to take them

Floris Should I get the whitening stuff or just put coconut oil in my mouth, haha don't know how to do it Grin

ishould I am a very picky eater so there is times where I haven't ate wheat or had dairy separately

Albus If you already have a prone mouth it tends to literally feel like Satan is in your mouth

My mum was plagued with mouth ulcers and she had pernicious anaemia. Worth checking?

I knew someone who would get mouth ulcers whenever she ate bread or bread products. If fact l think it was wheat.

Backingvocals · 22/10/2016 21:37

They are so painful. Those who don't get them will think a dab of Bojela will do but they can absolutely destroy your wellbeing Sad.

I'd second demanding more testing. My mum gets them like you do and she has a rare autoimmune condition. They seem to be associated with those types of illnesses (Inc coeliac).

RandomMess · 22/10/2016 21:45

I am just horrified that your GP/medical profession isn't taking this more seriously Angry

Even the common little rarely occurring ones are hideous to have the permanently is horrific and sing that something is wrong Sad

Sunnydawn · 22/10/2016 21:48

Family members had mouth ulcers until they cut out gluten (tested negative for ceoliac, but they are gluten intolerant).

38cody · 23/10/2016 02:17

Allergies? Chocolate does this to my mum.

sprinklesofweirdness · 23/10/2016 13:26

so sorry for the late replies, but yeah I cut chocolate out of my diet too, only very rarely do it

I did have anaemia when DD was born because I lost so much blood, but I'm all up to speed and they have no complaints on my bloods

But they are refusing to send me anywhere and just prescribing steriods Sad Angry

Angry I thought we had right under the NHS to a referral/2nd opinion?

elderberryflower · 23/10/2016 18:05

Ask to be tested for lupus- mouth ulcers are a symptom of that.

Artistic · 23/10/2016 18:06

Vitamin B complex tablets. Always works for me in 1-2 days. I have recurring ones too.

sprinklesofweirdness · 23/10/2016 23:43

randommess I went to the gp three times, first time said it was just my horomones, second said change your diet and third I demanded to get referred. Then got reffered to the oral surgeron department, and said we don't fix those issues but take these steriods and no we won't do any testing Angry Angry

Do you live anywhere near a dental hospital?
If so, all DHs have an Oral Medicine department. Oral Surgery very unlikely to be able to assist .Your dentist can definitely refer you to Oral Medicine.
You need a Haematinic profile as baseline bloods. Not familiar with WPW specific bloods, but the Haematinics will include B12 & folate, Iron Stores plus several others.
How big are the mouth ulcers? Over 1cm diameter or less?
Good luck

sprinklesofweirdness · 28/10/2016 13:02

Mulberry So sorry for the late reply didn't think anyone was going to post anymore, but I will look into if there is one near, and WPW doesn't have specific bloods just an extra connection in the heart and yeah sometimes like craters

Angry I'm so cross for you, why do they think it's ok to treat people like this Angry

I really hope you get some help although it does seem that you are going to have to fight tooth and nail for it Sad
