C section and left with huge stomach. Is this normal?

Had c-section in July. Am lighter than I was pre-pregnancy, but have huge stomach. After birth of first dc stomach went flat.

Have been doing 200 crunchies a day since Xmas, stomach now harder, but no smaller, still as big as ever in fact.

Cannot fasten up pre-pregnancy trousers. Is this normal?

Mine was back to normal size about 4 months later if that help. I was going to gym 3 times a week.

olivo · 09/02/2007 16:48

had one in august and nearly back to pre preg weight but stomach still v jellyish and IMO, grim but havent done much exercise as still bf and boobs too big and sore when i run (well, that's my excuse!)

have a feeling always will have some 'overhang'

bewilderbeast · 09/02/2007 16:49

my mw told me it would never go back to how it was and would always have a pouch because of the damage done to the muscles during a cs no matter how much exercise i did.

To the point where you couldn't fasten pre-pg trousers up, despite being 1/2 stone lighter than pre-pg weight?

Have done tons of exercises, but just fat and hard now, instead of just fat[blue]

Mine is terrible, i had section in Aug last year, don't get me wrong my figure wasn't perfect before but my stomach now is gross! it is jellified and is just hanging and disgusting, it just went back to "normal" after i had dd (normal delivery) but i have found exactly the same as you.

fizzbuzz · 09/02/2007 17:04

But how can a c-section do this? And why only to some people?

ruty · 09/02/2007 17:07

only have one child, by c section, tummy a disaster area now. was quite firm before. I'm slim but can't get rid of tummy and have noticed friends who had natural births los their tummies.

pandagirl03 · 09/02/2007 17:08

i have this problem too and dd is 19 months really gets me down sometimes.

Twiglett · 09/02/2007 17:14

its not crunches you need its pull-ins

pull in your stomach button as though you're trying to make it touch your spine .. hold and release slowly and repeat

then do quick ones

fizzbuzz · 09/02/2007 17:19

Have been to see post natal fitness trainer, who has given me lots of different exercises to do ( not may sit-ups though).

Thanks for all posts and advice, wish I felt confident it would go!

Had 2 sections and my stomach was flatter than people who hadn't - maybe they did a tummy tuck! I def wasn't fattter longer, your figure isn't ruined for ever.

Scar has almost gone too - had 2nd section 9 months ago.

jabberwocky · 12/02/2007 13:33

I know someone who says the same about her section. When I had mine the nurse told me "I told him you were a belly dancer so he was extra careful putting your muscles back together" I would think that they would always be careful! I wonder if there is anyway they can check on that? And anything to do if they weren't "careful"?

I did have a bigger overhang after the first section, btw. I asked the surgeon if there was anything she could do about it prior to the second one and she said she would do a bit of plastic surgery at the same time and see I'm 11 weeks out and I think it is better this time, but I still need to do quite a bit of ab work

manuka · 12/02/2007 14:21

mine is depressingly terrible 7 months on. but I had the butcher from hell who ignored the fact I could feel being sewn up. what a c**t. I've found that Callanetics has started to help though so going to keep on with that. Its certainly got rid of my hips and thighs!

manuka · 12/02/2007 14:22

Twiglet is right stomach pull ins are helping me

dressedupnowheretogo · 12/02/2007 14:32

mine is about same pre preg but tho im lighter now than i was my stretch marks are horrendous and i think make it look worse

saffymum · 12/02/2007 14:48

Hi, I found after CS I was so shocked at state of tummy I ran screaming from the mirror, I had so much extra skin. It has only really flattened now after 2 years. Did you take measurements before you were pg? it might be that although you feel you weigh your pre pg weight you might have put on weight in different areas?? I have more around my middle than before and although I only have to lose 4 kg to get back to pre pg size, I still can't wear my old stuff because its my overall shape that has changed, I'm really a woman now!!

fizzbuzz · 12/02/2007 17:12

Saffymum, you have given me hope. I may have put on a bit round tum, but IME, I always wack it on on hips and thighs. I tend to expand widthways, rather than front or back.

After I had dd, and all fluid etc had gone, I had put on 6lbs in weight, but seemed to go on other areas as wll as tum.

2 years is a very long time, did it really take that long?

Thanks for all posts everyone....will keep hoping...

So, are my sections to blame for my fat arse then?

Personally, I think my desk job is the culprit.
