Hi everyone. My children are due to have injections today- dd (23months) PCV and ds (18wks) 16wk injections (2wks late as he was ill the first time). Trouble is, one of my dd's friends has developed chicken pox. (Her spots came up properly on Tuesday) We saw them last Wednesday. Do you think it's safe to have my two immunised? Does anyone know of any dangers of having injections if you happen to be incubating chicken pox? Any advice would be gratefully received

My dd (16 months)had two injections and she developed chicken pox a week later. No problems.
Discuss it with who ever is doing the injections, but very often you won't know that your child is incubating chicken pox.

Thanks Belgo, glad your dd was OK. Do you know which injections they were? Do you think the type of injection might make a difference?

she had the prevenor and a mutiple jab (which includes polio). She also had a little cold at the time, but no temperature, and they sid she'd be fine, and she was.

I I have just googled and although the incubation period is 15-20 days your friend would probably not have been highly contagious a week ago. Apprently they would have been most contagious from 1 day before spots (i.e. Monday) until they have all crusted over. This implies that although there is a chance of your DCs incubating chicken pox - I think that chance is low anyway.

Thanks so much for that ladies. When I went up to the health centre the practice nurse got the doctor in to see us and he said exactly what you said slightlymadscientist-that we had contact with my friends daughter at a non contagious time and not to worry. Thank you for your help, this is the first time I've posted on here and it's so nice to feel support from other people out there, so big thankyou's!
