DS has a large mouth ulser - what treatment to use ?

DS (2.7 yo) is having problems chewing and eating from one side of his mouth, poor child was very unhappy when eating today.

I thought he was teething, but he isn't.

I finally managed to get a finger into the side of his mouth (without my finger being totally chewed off !) and he has a large ulser inside one cheek, rubbing against his gum.

Could someone please tell me what I can use that isn't too toxic - i.e. is there a good gel or something that children that young can use ?

DH has a tube of ANBESOL at home that says "ADULT STRENGTH GEL" on it which is a dead giveaway so I guess I won't be using it

Just give him lots of fruit (vit C) and make sure he has enough sleep.

I reckon he got it because he sticks fingers into mud in the garden/park then eats some apple or something with mucky hands (because mummy is too lazy to wipe his hands off every five minutes) !

thanks - he eats less and less fruit every day, don't know why he used to love fruit but i have started juicing fruit in my juicer and making sure he gets lots of carrot/orange juice every day.

i did think it might be lack of vit c

I doubt that caused it! I think they are viral, some people get them, some don't. Like with cold sores. He may have a tooth coming that has dug into the side of his mouth and caused it too. I often bite the inside of my mouth and get one. Poor lamb. Calpol will help if it's really bothering him.

oh, so it's a virus - then the culprit may be DH who always gets mouth ulsers every few months.
