Yea. Lump in my breast. Was ok about this till the gp said I need to go to the breast clinic.

Now I'm worried. Very worried.

Any experiences welcome

It's a horrible limbo period isn't it? But it is absolutely standard to send all lumps to the breast clinic these days! Mine has been diagnosed as "accessory breast tissue" suddenly sprouted near my armpit, so not having to worry now. Most people get similarly benign outcomes. Good luck!

whaaaaat · 14/10/2016 20:33

I've not heard of that, Minnie. Did you have a lump?

MinnieMinchkin · 14/10/2016 21:00

Yes, a 17 mm disc of tissue between my right breast and armpit. It first appeared this spring, and I just got discharged from the breast clinic the other week after various tests and monitoring. I only worried briefly at the beginning, to be honest, as I got reassurance that it was nothing sinister pretty soon.

No idea why this appeared at my age (over 40) when such things normally develop at puberty. Something like 6% of women have these, apparently. It behaves just like normal breast tissue. For me this means it gets very tender for a few days each month. A friend has had a similar lump in her armpit, which became really painful when the milk came in when she had kids!

Glad everything turned out ok,Minnie. Did they not even do a biopsy?

MinnieMinchkin · 15/10/2016 09:19

Nope. Went in twice expecting to be confronted by a big needle, but both times the consultant (different people, two months apart) could not justify such invasion clinically due to no suspicious signs in the mammogram or ultrasound, or in the feel of it. I just need to continue to monitor as I do with the rest of my breast tissue.

MinnieMinchkin · 15/10/2016 09:24

I hope those of you waiting are coping ok. It is awful but most lumps end up being nothing to worry about.

Ptarmigandancinginthegloaming · 15/10/2016 09:30

You mentioned feeling numb OP, and I think this is one of the few times when that's ok - u just don't have the information to know how to react, so if u can, it's best to just carry on and ignore it until u know if there's a problem. I had a similar feeling with a smear test which needed further investigation, then turned out to be absolutely fine - I felt numb, and as if I wasn't dealing with it while I waited, but in the end there was nothing wrong, so it would have been a whole bunch of complex feelings for no purpose in the end.
Good luck OP, the odd are in ur favour!

Thank you all very much. I don't think I'm worried I have cancer. It's the area in which they have to poke and prod. My partner us lucky if he gets near that area. Things happened in the past shall we say and I'm quite protective of the area. I'm in quite a tizz. As for needles, they want to put one in the can knock me out!

Hiya, I know this is abbot late but thought my experience might be helpful.

I had a lump and was referred to my breast centre, I was examined by a consultant who then sent me through for a scan, they decided it was a cyst and numbed the area and removed it there and then using a needle. Not the most pleasant experience but I was glad it was all done and dusted that day. The breast clinic were great and really reassuring and efficient. I hope it's the same positive experience for you.

backaftera2yearbreak · 20/10/2016 11:34

Update:

Nothing. There was nothing there. But even a cyst.

Not even a cyst!

Mummy2squish · 20/10/2016 12:05

Well that's good I guess?! Does it feel better?

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 20/10/2016 12:38

That's good news :) maybe it was a cyst, but it cleared up?

backaftera2yearbreak · 20/10/2016 12:38

No it's still sore. Hormones apparently. It's weird cause there was s lump there. The doctor felt it but it's gone now
