worried about dd, 20 months

I posted earlier on the behaviour / development board as I thought my dd might have had her first 'tantrum'. She's 20 months and today from waking was very edgy and then lost it later and then threw up. She hasn't been sick again but she's been literally losing her rag over anything and everything which is not like her at all. She's not particularly hot or sniffly. The only thing she's complaining of (in words) is constantly telling me that she's 'sore' when I'm changing her nappy and when she's sitting down. She won't let me look too closely as she's getting very upset when I try to clean her when I change her nappy. But from what I've been able to see, she doesn't look dreadfully sore, not as bad as she's looked sometimes with nappy rash. She's also been off her food for a couple of days but much more so today - no breakfast or lunch and just a bit of milk to drink and a bit of pasta for tea. Does this suggest anything to anyone?

Well, I haven't taken her to the GP as there were no appointments at all until 6.50pm this evening as an emergency and she seems a bit better today, not so grouchy and hasn't complained of any soreness, though still not eating much. I also did a lot of research into urine infections and I'm not convinced she's got one. I'm going to keep a close eye on her today and if she seems worse in any way I'll take her to that late appointment. i can't believe it's so damned hard to get appointments round here (London). If I wanted to book one for her there was nothing free until a week on Wednesday!!! So I have to either go for an emergency (which can be any time, usually very late) or keep phoning in case there's a cancellation. I really think there should be a special facility for children. I know through my brother (a children's nurse) that when kids get ill they can go from being only slightly ill to very seriously ill in a very quick time.

stf could it be the heat aggravating her? My dd has certainly been eating less since it's been hot.

As for the sore bottom, has she been constipated recently? If so she could have a little tear that would be painful. Or maybe she has just fallen over and bruised her bum?

I hope she improves soon xx

Thanks CD, it's not actually her bottom. It seems to be her genitals that she says are sore. Her bottom looks fine. Delicious even ...

How was dd today, stf?

if you think it could be a urinary infection, you could take a sample at home then drop it in at the GPs and ask them to check it out for you. I have done this, and they have been happy to do it. at least it starts to rule out what it isn't!! you could try giving her quite a lot of water as not only has it been very hot (one of mine wasn't drinking enough) but if it is uti it will help ease a little. hope she feels better soon

Dd seems a lot better today actually. She hasn't eaten much but at least she's eaten something and her temper was much more like normal. So I think the mini crisis is over this time!

Thanks to you all for your help and concern.
