Dramatic weight loss

My oh and I have had a stupidly rocky patch recently. Due to this I have only seen him fully clothed and haven't had any physical contact.
The other day I gave him a hug. The shock is something I can't really describe apart from, shit!
He's lost a massive amount of weight (when pushed he thinks it's 32kg) in around 4 months looking back at photos. He could have done with loosing some but this is stupid, he's also lost muscle mass too.
He said he's changed a couple of things but in my opinion not enough to result in the huge loss.
He doesn't think he's any more stressed than he's ever been before.
What conditions can cause such a dramatic loss??
Drs appointment has been booked

The beta blockers are fine, we understand the use of those.
It's the other that's a tad concerning, I'm hoping it's predisone as the side effects are less. Predisolone is worse. (They really need to stop naming things similarly)
He's starting on 1 and over a few days will build it up to 2 depending on the side effects he has.

RAI increases risk of eye involvement a tiny bit. Smoking makes it something like 8 times more likely 😮

booox · 07/10/2016 10:20

It does mention smoking.

slightlyinsane · 07/10/2016 10:20

We don't think so yet, although he was due his eye test so the change in eye sight could just be his normal progression

He's a non smoker

Ah my mistake; I've confused the two. It's says prednisolone in this book. My spell check goes to the other.

It does sound like they're prioritising it hugely which is great. I do hope he's feeling better soon.

slightlyinsane · 07/10/2016 10:24

No problems, my phone prefers prednisone too. 🙈

www.btf-thyroid.org

You could give the BTF a ring - they have volunteers with experience you can chat to.

In the time between diagnosis and treatments taking effect (RAI didn't work for me) resting was the main thing that helped but it's kind of hard in that state, everything is in overdrive. I had to cut out caffeine immediately and even now I'm much less tolerant of it and tend to swerve it. Resting and eating loads of food are all I can think of.
