just wondering if anyone suffers from this, i've been away from mn for a few weeks but have decided i couldn't stay away!

I have had back pain from the age of 17 i'm now 25 and after going to the doctors for 8yrs complaining of my back and they have done nothing about it, i payed for a private x-ray i got the results the other day.

I have scoliosis (a curve to the right of my spine)coming from my the right side of my pelvis and therfor the top of my back has tried to compensate and i now have an s shaped spine that has caused me severe pain for the last 8yrs, its not a severe curve but about 25% Also the pain at the bottom of my back, i always thought it was my tailbone turns out that my bottom 3 discs are degenerating causing abnormal spaces between my discs and nerve pain.

I have really just come on here as i feel sorry for myself i suppose, i feel so let down by my doctor and angry at the same time, i'm usually so positive about life but now i'm thinking of the next 50 odd yrs of suffereing in pain!

My sil has this but she doesn't have any children. How old are yours? She's had it since before she was 12 (that's when they operated and stretched her from 4'7" to 4'10" where she's stayed) and she's still working now she's in her 50s so it hasn't stopped her having a normal life. She has travelled a lot with my brother.

It must be a shock to have this diagnosis though. Have you been back to your doctor to discuss it? He/she will probably bend over backwards to help you now.

I have this, mostly due to having being born with a dislocated hip. i went to a fantastic physio about 8 years ago and have had v. little trouble since, did some deep muscle massage and gave me some simple exercises to straighten my spine alittle. keeping active does help. i do worry about the long term effects. get some help.

hi thanks for messages, my kids are 7 and 3 it started being more painful after having first one, thing is i have always been active and when the pain got worse at some points i still carried on regardless, the doctor who done my x ray reckons it started with my pelvis being out of place that caused the curve he reckons the curve was there early adolesence and this is the age where they operate to stop it progressing, but because i have not been diagnosed there is prob not much they can do.
