SparklyGothKat · 05/02/2007 18:40

the nitty gitty comb is the best for getting out eggs and lice

wurlywurly · 05/02/2007 18:41

savers do a pack of 2 nit combs (plain ones very fine teeth) for 99p

wotzsaname · 05/02/2007 18:42

I found the best combs were the cheap plastic nit combs.

Best Top: wet hair and use some conditioner and use an old white cloth (rip up and old t-shirt) and after each downwards stroke, wipe comb both sides on a clean bit of the cloth, make sure there is nothing on it before putting it back into the hair.

yes t-tree oil - couple of drops on head and massge through first.

wash everything every day, bedding, pillow cases, towels.

when they have gone, always tie hair back and check.

if all else fails, cut hair a bit shorter to help process!

boys get them too, even with short hair, bit it does cut down on the combing!

good luck

We're having a nightmare as well at the moment - I've heard that the nittygritty combs are the best so I'm going to get one of those. Apparently you can print off something from their website and take it to the doctors and get it on presription

tell him you spotted one in his man hair!

Surfermum · 05/02/2007 19:09

Yep, the nitty gritty is fantastic. I was gobsmacked how much I got out of dsd's hair with it that the little white plastic one wasn't getting.

I put on loads of conditioner and comb through section by section for as long as is needed. I repeat every 3rd day until I don't find any, then carry on every 3rd day for another week.

I've never washed bedding or towels.

This works for dsd (who doesn't live with us and gets hundreds) and for dd and I whenever we've caught them off her.

Does anyone recommend any products? or old wives tales, My kids have never had them before and at 13yrs with long curly hair its a nightmare, luckily school breaks up Friday so I can comb every day for 7 weeks!! Evidently 6 kids in class with nits!!! should i ring school? Send her in? all advice welcome x

Any really good cures?

incywincyspideragain · 04/07/2012 12:27

as everyone said before nitty gritty comb and regular checking to keep them at bay.
We don't use chemicals but I do get oils prearation from Neals Yard - about £10 for bottle but lasts ages, can use on whole family (is basically a mixture of essential oils including tea tree and lavender in base oil which you put on and comb through)
