in my eye? It hurts like hell. Any creams or anything that can be used or do you just have to wait it out?

I had a sty a few months ago and didn't buy any treatments but I did bathe the eye lid with warm water and lint free cotton wool twice daily.Gradually it came to a head and began to clear. They are painful and definitely a sign of being run down, hope it goes away quickly

Rub a gold ring on it. It's an old wive's tale but it does work on most styes. Something to do with the metal.

My baby 6 mths just had 3 sties! eye all swollen and angry with loads of puss. Waited and waited, it got worse. tried homeopathic remedies that were recommended by books (apis,pulsatilla).. it got worse.
got antibiotic cream from doc called Fucithalmic, and it got worse.
went back to doc who gave us penicillin and a nasty cream called Chloramphenicol that apparently some health bodies have tried to ban, and said put it on 6 times a day, and have the oral penicillin 4 times. The doc was freaked out and said if it didn't clear in 3 days go back.
Now have you ever tried giving antibiotics to baby who has only ever had breast milk? He kept throwing it up.the nxt day older dd went in to hospital for an operation. baby's eye was so nasty that surgeons all remarked about it and someone said are you coming back into the hospital to have his eye done!
totally freaked and unable/unwilling to give AB and nasty cream, I bite the bullet, drove for an hour to hand over £70 to proper homeopath, who took 2.5 hrs with us, gave me a remedy and 'eye bright' tincture to bathe it and HEY PRESTO, it all healing very nicely thank you very much!
so, not sure how this applies to you but hope it helps?!hmm

P.s I had tried bathing it with warm water, cold tea, breast milk etc etc and nothing helped...

tirnanog · 05/02/2007 18:55

Breast milk might increase the infection.

Yarrow · 05/02/2007 18:57

apparently not. It is what is recommended and tried and tested for conjuctivitus!

ledodgy · 05/02/2007 18:59

Breast milk is sterile.

wotzsaname · 05/02/2007 19:00

ledodgy, I have tried this and it does work!

lulumama · 05/02/2007 19:00

DS had one last week.. massaged it gently with a clean flannel, which i had held under the hot tap , so it was hot, but not too hot to bear.....after about five minutes and making the cloth hot again, it burst painlessly, and was gone

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/02/2007 19:01

Rubbing a gold ring works, usually because it knocks the head off the stye (yick!) easing the pressure etc.

I do this, its not ideal, but it does work.

tirnanog · 05/02/2007 19:01

never knew that

And I breastfed!

Yarrow · 05/02/2007 19:04

I had tried warm flannels and compresses too but with small baby was too conscious of hurting him

JoshandJamie · 05/02/2007 19:04

Thanks - will give the bathing thing with flannel a try. Sadly have no breastmilk to use (stopped BF about 11 months ago). Might try the gold ring thing if I can find one - DH has one but we can't get it off his finger. And my rings are platinum. Would that work??

I am run down. It sucks. Have been eating fruit and veg and taking berocca but it's the constant lack of sleep and stress with work that's doing it. Sigh. Thanks for all the advice

Breastmilk is magical

I did it for DS yesterday - he had signs of conjunctivitis starting. Squeezed some b/milk in his eye before bedtime and they were clear as a bell this morning.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/02/2007 19:05

Any ring really will do. As long as its clean.

Yarrow · 05/02/2007 19:07

Get thyself to a homeopath Woman! Sounds like it could help all round

tirnanog · 05/02/2007 19:16

of course breastmilk is sterile,I feel completley stupid now!!!

cjmummy · 05/02/2007 19:30
