Remedies for itchy skin on 10mo

my Ds has an awfully itchy neck, under his chin - which when he scratches goes up to his chin and on his cheeks. I'm not sure if it is from dribble or not, but nothing seems to work.

We have tried...
Unguentum - which works on dry/itchy skin on his arms & legs but flares his skin up on his face.
Hydromol - same as unguentum
E45 Junior - seems good but is a bit watery so makes his skin quite sticky and possible more irratating
Sudocrem - this is the best thing we've found so far, but wont clear it up.
There are more - but nothing has worked.

I feel awful for him, because it must be driving him mad and he's drawn blood under his chin from constant scratching.

Has anyone else ever had this, did you find something that would stop him itching therefore let it dry up and get better?

You could try:

  • Vaseline to protect his skin from whatever is irritating it.

  • Aqueous Cream to moisturise (although it doesn't help me)

  • Aveeno Cream

  • Normal E45

  • Not using soap/ bubble bath etc

  • Hydrocortisone might help stop the itching but you need to get 0.5% from the doctor - don't use the stuff you can buy on a baby.

vaseline and sudocreme are usually good for this sort of thing. I'd pop in to your local health shop and ask there, their knowledge is usually fantastic and the poducts very skin friendly with no hidden nasties. the best thing to do is keep it constantly moisturised. What sort of soap, shampoo and washing detergent do you use? it could be a sensitivity to those.

Aqueous hasnt worked for me either mamama. But vaseline is a good idea - should stop his sharp little nails cutting the skin again.

I dont actually use bubble bath or anything because of his sensitive skin (although its a million times better than when he was tiny). I use hydromol bath ointment, which has no reaction.

I use dentinox shampoo - only because there is a load left from when he had cradle cap - although thats now gone. I have used that for a long time, so i'm certain its not that.

I havent changed washing powder or conditioner - its the only think i wont scrimp on, and buy the fairy for babies/sensitive skin.

I was given some hydrocortizone for his skin many months ago, but decided to not use it until things got really bad - this was on the creases of his arms & legs, perhaps i should try it on this and see if it helps.

The sudocrem has helped but makes it very dry looking.

I do feel so sorry for him because once he starts he cannot stop himself

My little girl has very reddry skin, bordering on eczema. At first it used to really upset me;it troubled me probably more than it did her!
I tried everything including hydrocortisone creams, E45, sudocreme all to no avail. It was worse during the summer because it was so hot.
Then for a while I did nothing and gradually it cleared up on her neck and back. Her skin was less red and angry although a bit dry. I remembered what the midwife had said when she was first born and bought a bottle of normal olive oil, which I started to slap on her skin. Since then the rash is 100 times better. She gets little red dry patches but nothing like before.
It might help...you never know. Sometimes the less you do the better...

Yes, olive oil is a good idea too - we used it on cradle cap and our dr recommended it for dry skin too. I think it's a case of trying things until you find one that works for you. Best of luck. Hope the itching stops soon.

Avoid bathing too much. There are lots of irritants in tap water. You could try a water softner.
