Hubby's Snoring Really Bad!!!!

I'm seeking some advice on how to cure my DH's snoring. At the moment, he's sleeping on the sofa because his snoring has got so bad. He is overweight and had started exercising, which helped, but has suddenly stopped exercising and now the snoring is worse than ever! He even snores on his side. I have survived the last 8 years with ear plugs but he has got worse over the past couple of years. My MIL, who is also overweight, has the worst snoring I have ever heard, you can hear it around the entire house and I'm scared my DH will end up the same.

Does anyone know of any herbal remedies that work?

No, but I gave mine a good kick last night and that worked for about 3 minutes!

He snores within 30 seconds of going to sleep

Sorry, no help at all!!!!!!

Sleeping on the sofa won;t do his back any good. Sofas are bad for backs.

Will you and or him (ideally both of you) be willing to go to your GP to discuss this problem?. His snoring may be because of sleep apnoea or other problems like soft palate problems for instance. He needs to be checked out medically.

Being overweight for instance certainly does not help with regards to snoring.

My DH snores a lot more after drinking, even just one glass of wine. We stopped alcohol in january and it was heaven. So now we have agreed that he will only drink 3 nights per week and see how that goes.

It will probably help hugely if your DH loses weight - not easy I know!

We have had no luck with herbal remedies but those nose strips do help a bit. You can get them at Boots.

If all else fails he could get an operation which would sort it out. A bit drastic but might mean you can sleep together again .

The above factsheet could also prove helpful.

that operation doesn't always work though - FIL had some sort of op and still snores terribly (which has, of course, put dh off ever getting help so I'm stuck with a loud snorer too!)

Hi

I have the same prob and it is enough to drive you mad, especially when you are a busy mum with precious little sleep. My other half is terrible - and I find that if I take a couple of herbal nytols do the trick for me, as I can sleep through the noise better!!

Other than that, a swift kick or just turning them over gives some respite!!

my dp snores really badly 0- we have not slept in the same room for five years. He went to doctor had sleep trial and was diagnosed with sleep apnoea.

He has a machine he wears at night to help with breathing but the only long term solution the dr said is weight loss.

not read all the posts but my dh snores to. HE uses 'stopsnoring' a spray for the back of his throat. Unless he has had a drink or is really tired it works! its worth a try! (its about a tenner, we get it from Tesco)

Thanks for all your tips and support. My hubby gets a bit upset if I kick him and I can't take any nytol because I might sleep through my DS crying in the night (then that may be a good idea...). Coincidently, my MIL has been to see an ENT specialist today and they've ruled out any nose blockages and want to do a sleep study on her. I told her months ago that I thought she had sleep apnea - when she falls asleep in front of the TV on the sofa, she snores loudly then suddenly stops like she's died. My hubby's snoring's not like that. I might try the strips first, then the spray. If all else fails, I might try a watch I saw advertised that gives you an electric shock when you snore that makes you change position without waking you. My hubby isn't keen on that one!
