DD fell and banged her little girl bits on her scooter earlier this afternoon really cried but couldn't see anything. But just tried to go for a wee but couldn't and said it stung and i noticed a bit of blood in her pants she is fine otherwise but not sure what to do.

Ring NHS direct, they are very good.

chlochlo · 04/02/2007 18:18

its saying only urgant calls

OP posts:
clayre · 04/02/2007 18:20

i would say this is urgent, my ds son has a downstairs problem and if i notice any abnormality i have to take him straight to casulty

chlochlo · 04/02/2007 18:21

thankyou i'm on hold but it just keeps saying if it isn't urgant then to ring another time.

I would call your out of hours gp if you have one. It's possible that there is swelling that is blocking the urine. Could get serious if not dealt with ie if left overnight.

sarz · 04/02/2007 18:24

I did a similar thing as a child, and although i was ok in the end, the doctor sent me straight to A&E. Def ring NHS Direct.

Spidermama · 04/02/2007 18:26

Yes I would go to the out of hours doc too if I were you. IME NHS Direct has always been crap. A waste of space.

bristols · 04/02/2007 18:28

If you're really concerned, go to A&E. The only thing is, you may have to wait a while. Out of hours GP might be better in that respect. Perhaps it stings down there and so she can't wee?

bristols · 04/02/2007 18:29

Just mentioned this to my DH who is a GP and he says to go to A&E incase your LO has gone into urinary retention. she needs to be examined. Good luck

clayre · 04/02/2007 18:30

if its for a child they don't make you wait that long, def get some advice, any luck with nhs 24

chlochlo · 04/02/2007 18:30

they have got a five hour waiting for anyone to ring back now i really don't know what to do.

go to A&E. It's not worth the risk of waiting

clayre · 04/02/2007 18:32

bloody hell thats terrible!

chlochlo · 04/02/2007 18:33

what a&e even though she is fine and eating toast just every now and then she holds her bits and cries.

OP posts:
Tiggerish · 04/02/2007 18:34

definately - the worst that can happen is they will send you away again. If there is a problem they can get it sorted and it will all be forgotten in a few days. If you leave it she could be left with a much more serious problem

PeachesMcLean · 04/02/2007 18:35

Yes, A&E! (If it's any consolation, I'm sure my DS would think it a tremendous adventure. Hope your DD shares his bizarre sense of humour. She does need to be checked out.

bristols · 04/02/2007 18:36

Go to a & e!!!

Tiggerish · 04/02/2007 18:37

Please just take her. Several years ago I was working as a youth helper and one of the kids had a similar injury. She ended up with really serious complications because she didn't get it seen to quickly enough.

chlochlo · 04/02/2007 18:38

yeah she will think it is one big adventure she has always been interested in hospitals

OP posts:
PeachyClair · 04/02/2007 18:52

A&E- apart rom anything else, if she is blewedingt ehre she has a risk of infection doesn't she, so it has to be worth checking out- a tiny graze can be nasty if infected (says the women who was hospitalised for cystitis for 3 nights years ago)

Terrible of NHS direct- around here they ahndle the GP calls too.

chlochlo · 04/02/2007 19:08

Well it looks like there is no choice we haven't got an out of hours service and the local hospital have said i need to go to the big one in town. Fingers crossed we make it home before midnight.

OP posts:
Tiggerish · 04/02/2007 19:09

Good Luck Chlochlo. Hope you are both home soon.

DimpledThighs · 04/02/2007 19:27

good luck - hope it goes okay.

chlochlo · 04/02/2007 22:08

we are back safe and well once we got there she managed a little wee they tested it and was positive for blood but as there was no temperature and the fact that she had banged herself they was happy that there is no other damage got to see gp in the morning with another sample just to make sure there is no more blood.
She still crys when she wee's so i suppose its just sore.
Thanks for all your advice.
NHS still haven't phoned
