Is this Impetigo? What do I do?

My 4 y o dd has bad excema but today she has come up with crusty patches just under her mouth. She says it's very itchy and when she strached it, the yellowy crusts came off and there were lots of blood and clear fluid.

She's also got a big patch on her forehead which is oussy and crusty. I've phoned the out of hours doctors for advice in case it is impetigo but we'll have to wait a couple of hours for them to phone back.

Does anyone know if this sounds like impetigo? Or what I should do in the meantime, if anything? I've just given her some Piriton to help with the itching.

We were just about to go into town on the bus - poor dd is all upset now because we have to wait in for the doctor's phone call.

does sound like impetigo. I think you meant oozy, i'm not sure how to spell it either.

Maybe you meant oozy lol, my ds has had this and it was impetigo. It spreads like wildfire but is easily treated with a cream called Fucidin, which is nothing short of miraculous imo. Keep towels etc separate and encourage no touching, hard I know but rather important if it is impetigo.

Was I right to phone the out of hours doctor service? (I'm here on my own this weekend and everyone I know is out!)

You could try NHSdirect and they may advise you to go to a drop-in centre where if it is you can get the script for the cream there, otherwise they may advise you to wait until monday as it'll not be classed as an emergency. However, if she was running a temp as well then it could be a sign of worsening infection in which case they would want you to be seen sooner IYKWIM.

Well I am so glad I took her to the out of hours doctors - her temp shot up this afternoon and she got the shakes. It turns out yes it is impetigo and she's got tonsilitis as well, and because her excema is so bad atm the doc (who turned out to be family friend! Can you believe that?!? Thank you God!!!) has out her on 3 days of oral steroids as well as antibiotics.

Poor love! She is one of these sturdy people who never complain but I think she's really suffering.
