Fingers crossed that he is going to be ok.
Hope you hear something soon.

My Gramp had a stroke in December and is in the general in High Wycombe too.

I hope he is ok. It took a few days before we really knew anything so don't panic.

He should get referred to a speech and language therapist (SALT)regarding his swallow, they will assess it and find out if he needs thicken fluids or sips of fluids or peg feed until his swallow improves (peg feed is a feed that goes in to the stomach and used if people are unable to swallow)

Ask them to make referral to SALT but they prob should already have done. He should also recieve Physio therapy for exercise and help to facilitate movement and an Occupational Therapist to help regain independence with washing and dressing and other activites, they will assist with upper and lower limb exercises through function and activites (as mentioned). This will mainly be done when transferred to the appropriate ward.
He should get assessed on MAU and may see an Physio for an initial assessment.
Hope he pulls through it and makes a good improvment.

nikkie · 03/02/2007 16:05

I guess as well that they won't let himeat until seen by SALT which would prob be Mon (IME) now

Just seen your message, my gran had a stroke just after christmas and has made a good recovery. She was paralysed down one side, couldnt swallow, speak or move really. She has been in hospital for a while but is going home on Wednesday. She is still quite week, has regained most of her movement and he speech is fine, she is 88 and this is her 3rd stroke. So yes it it is a waiting game but so far so good for my gran, hope the news is good for grandad
