hey wurly i had one done under LA and it was fine , no worse than a "normal" filling where the injectino is the worst thing.

They aren't pleasant but you will feel so much better if you have it done.

I take it they aren't going to do all the fillings at the same time?

Best of luck

I had to have 3 done recently (not root canal ones) and I cried when i found out too (wuss)

i have to have 2 fillings done at a time (otherwise they cant claim the money back off the nhs??), but am tempted to call the aneastetic(sp?) clinic that is local and see how i can go about having the work done there, even the thought of just having fillings done is scaring me. Tried to explain to him that i suffer panic attacks but he just wasnt interested.

I'd consider changing dentist, mine is lovely - I get very nervous with dental treatment after having a bad experience as a child and my dentist is very calming, music on quietly in teh background, he just sits back and chats to me until I am completely relaxed then explains what he is about to do at every stage (I like to feel in control!)

Alarm bells are ringing about yours wurly, can you change dentist?

wurlywurly · 02/02/2007 10:51

he spoke to me as if i was 10 "oh this is what happens when you dont go to the dentist", and i laid there thinking yeah i know its my fault i dont need to be told

Had one done under a local last autumn but unfortunately it didn't end there as infection had gone into the gum and a fine canal . The tooth itself was dead so the root treatment itself wasn't particularly painful. Mine was a front tooth though so easily accessible.

Think it unlikely they'd do a general for it(higher risks of complication and longer recovery period) but maybe they could offer sedation with a local so you would be less aware of the treatment taking place and lose the "fight" reflex and tension. Good luck and hope you can find an alternative dentist you are happier with (perhaps ring your Primary Care Trust or ask around).

ok happier now, have just called our local aneastetic clinic and sobbed on the phone trying to explain that i am now too terrified to go back to the original dentist and they explained that if i want to have the owrk done whilst asleep then to get the dentist too refer me to them and they will do it there.

oh thats good wurly- your dentist sounds like a cock though, I'd change if I were you.

Good luck

Sounds like a good solution . Do look for a different dentist though, there are many more symathetic ones out there.

the place that i want to be seen isnt taking any patients at the moment, but i may try every month or so and see if they decide to take any more
