Cold in 17 weeks old

My LO has had snuffles for at least 5 weeks. I have taken her to the doctors at least 5 times!-neurotic first time mum. She was given antibiotics for a throat infection- for two courses. Last week a 'proper' cold came out- runny nose and everything. Now I just have a really thick green mucus all the time. Makes her sick as at that age they can't get rid of it any other way. I can hear it really thick in her nose as well. Any suggestions? Or do I really have to wait for the summer?

You might want to try regular saline solution (ask at the chemist or pharmacy) - put two drops into each nostril and then turn the head each side so that the solution runs into the eustachean (sp?) tubes - might help clear the sinuses and prevent ear infections. But do check with the pharmacist first as to when you can use the regualr saline solution.

sounds horrible but you can get nasal aspirators to suck some of the green mucus out her nose. it doesnt hurt them would be just the same as if you were a lovely jamaican mother and sucked it out for them instead (yuk!)

you can get them most places, boots, tesco etc

pmoore, my DS is 7 weeks and has just had his second cold .

I have used the saline drops and they really help. Also after checking with GP I have used Olbas oil on a tissue, and when really bad disolved a small teaspoon of vapour rub in boiling water - however this does make your eyes stream so dont put it close to your DD.

Also a wet tea towel over the radiator moistens the air at night which helps. Also put DD in the bathroom while you shower/bath as the steam helps.

Medised can be used from 3 months and can aid breathing too - but it depends on whether you want to give her medicine yet, regardless of the age thing.

But I agree with you - roll on spring!

My DS actualy could'nt breathe at all last weekend after I took him to a local park and fed him, I thought fresh air would help, but not when windy. He started throwing his head around as he could'nt breath in! On instinct I ended up tried to suck the blockage, but that did'nt help so I had to blow it down instead otherwise I dont think he would be here this week!

It truly is terryifying when they are so small!

Thanks for all the advice. Mornings are worse after lying flat. I am beginning to get used to it now- its like part of LO its been going on so long.

LowFatMilkshake- at DS not being able to breathe. My LO chocked for the first time last week I was so frightened but luckily had done the baby life saving evening. Would recommend to all.
