chicken pox - advice please

My dd2 has been exposed to chicken pox, and this morning has spots, so fairly happy with my home diagnosis. Do I need to take her to a doctor, or can I just treat her at home? Is my dd1 infectious? She has already had it so I don't think she will get it, but can she carry it? Do I have to tell anyone? Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks

NBG thank god you've said that I found a little hard lump on the lower back bit of ds's head too now he's got it on the otherside so i'm assuming it's glandular as well.

amidaiwish · 02/02/2007 10:04

peachy
my DDs had it when DD1 was just over 2 and DD2 was 8 months old

DD1 had it very mildly and it wasn't that bad. With DD2 it was horrendous! I def think it's easier if they understand what's going on (know other people in nursery etc...). It also totally threw out DD2's sleeping - infact she hasn't slept through since and that was last May!

NbgsYellowFeathers · 02/02/2007 10:08

Awful isnt it Ledodgy.
I papped myself last night when I felt it.

ledodgy · 02/02/2007 10:10

So did I! I found it last night too all sorts was running through my head.
DD still hasn't got it but she's got a bad cough and a couple of spots but I don't think they are poxy I feel awful today so i'm not sure if it's the virus dd had last week or the dreaded pox coming I've not felt right for a week or so now it's driving me mad.

NbgsYellowFeathers · 02/02/2007 10:12

Well dd has been a bit coldy from the weekend and ds has caught it too.
I just hope he doesnt get chicken pox. He's only 5 months.

ledodgy · 02/02/2007 10:14

Is he/was he bf because that will help his immunity to it if you've had chicken pox yourself and he probably won't get it.

fryalot · 02/02/2007 10:14

fwiw: my ds seems totally spot and symptom free.

No couldnt BF because of severe reflux. Couldt keep it down the poor boy.

Well thats quite reassuring Sqonk. Let me know if he does!

fryalot · 02/02/2007 10:18

will do.

I had the same problem with ds, terrible refux it's horrible isn't it? I'm sure I read somewhere they don't give the mmr till 13 months because the baby will still have the mum's immunity usually for around 12 months so maybe that works for cp too bf or not? Here's hoping!

NbgsYellowFeathers · 02/02/2007 10:42

Its not good but its getting better as he's started to have a bit of solid now.
I hope thats right about the immunity!

fryalot · 02/02/2007 10:48

dd now has 29 spots. That's 10 new ones in just over an hour. Still no sign on ds.

(I know counting spots on a 2 year old is about as sad as you can get!)

ledodgy · 02/02/2007 10:50

OOh she sounds like she's going to be covered! Ds only has about 20 and he's in his second week!

fryalot · 02/02/2007 10:52

ooohhhh!!!!

OP posts:
NbgsYellowFeathers · 02/02/2007 14:17

Yuck
they're spreading like wildfire here!
She has them all over her head and they are alot bigger than the others. Luckily her hair covers them but I think it seems to be aggrevating them more for her.

Toothyboy · 02/02/2007 14:57

I'm glad to hear your dcs don't have that many spots! Ds1 only has about 20 over his whole body, I was expecting him to be covered! In fact I saw the first 2 on his legs last week and thought they were bites, didn't realise it was the pox until preschool sent him home on Monday !

I actually came on now to see if I could find out why ds2 (11 months) doesn't seem to have caught it and you've answered that for me - isn't Mumsnet great?!!!

Hope all the dcs feel better soon .

fryalot · 02/02/2007 15:30

Just counted spots again and gave up at 40. She still seems ok and she says she doesn't feel poorly but the blistered spot on her back is HUGE! Haven't even checked her head. How is yours feeling yellowfeathers?

OP posts:
ledodgy · 02/02/2007 18:15

JUst try and stop them from knocking the blisters ds knocked a huge on on his wrist the other day and the liquid went all over me! He then had another huge one next to it by the next day as it had spread.
I've only just got up I felt so rough by the time dp came home this afternoon I went to bed for 3 hours! I still don't feel right it seems to come over in waves kind of fluey, knackered and achy like i've got something that hasn't quite come out yet iyswim i'm starting to think I may wake up with spots very soon.

ledodgy · 02/02/2007 20:08

Oh bugger half an hour ago whilst putting dd to bed I noticed she had a few red spots on her back, I called dd to have a look and loads more appeared before our eyes...

NbgsYellowFeathers · 02/02/2007 20:23

Eeek Ledodgy! I keep itching myself but I think its just physcological.

DD started to get really narky this afternoon and then she went all drowsy and fell asleep on the sofa. I woke her up about 4 and took her out for a walk and then had a good bath.
The spots are blistering now and she says the ones on her head really hurt her . Am just waiting for dh to come home with some Calamine lotion.

ledodgy · 02/02/2007 20:26

It's horrible isn't it I don't think I can face yet another week stuck at home with them both. I've told dp he can go to the shops tommorrow and stack up on jigsaws, art stuff , biscuit ingredients and the like so at least we can occupy ourselves a bit more to relieve the boredom. I still don't feel right but sil is coming down with wine which will make or break me but I think this is going to be the last drink I have for a while so intend to enoy it!

NbgsYellowFeathers · 02/02/2007 20:28

Are you feeling rough then?
Its weird because I've been feeling a bit sick and had a wobbly stomach for a while now. Deffo not pg but I know somethings not right. DD has been on and off with colds too.
Enjoy your vino!

ledodgy · 02/02/2007 20:38

Yeah I haven't felt right for about a week now knackered, achy etc basically like i'm coming down with something without actually coming down with it iyswim. It may be cp as I have never had it. Have you had it?

NbgsYellowFeathers · 02/02/2007 20:41

Yeah when I was about 4. Or so my mum told me today.
As I've mentioned though, dh's sister has had it 3 times, a friend of mine has had it twice and I've just learned tonight that my dad has also had it twice too.

If you have got it, it maybe Shingles which is a bit worse than CP. It effects the nerves. According to my mum, she says adults get it if they are quite run down or elderly.
Your not in the Sandwich generation are you?
