Persistent glue ear - does adenoids & tonsil removal help?

DS who is 2.3 has got glue ear again and is due to have more grommets in - he had first set put in when he was 10 months old - they worked a treat but have obviously fallen out now
they wouldn't take his adenoids out then as he was too little - if they take adenoids and tonsils out this time will it help?
what's everyone's experience??

Not in your age group, but my son has had ear trouble since he was born, nearly 13 years ago. He eventually had his tonsils and adenoids removed when he was 11 years old.

He had been getting persistant bouts of tonsilitis since age 9 or so - lots of pain and time off school. It seemed to be a progression from having ear infections (something he has suffered from all his life). He got tonsilitis in times of stress, exams etc. Having his tonsils removed stopped the tonsilitis so that was good, though he still gets ear infections and has sinus problems, poor boy.

FWIW, having his tonsils and adenoids removed did help, but didn't cure 100%.

Both my dss suffered from glue ear and had grommits plus tonsils and adenoids removed. They were both around 3. Neither had just grommits previous to that. We were advised to go for the full monty straight away even though neither of them had a massive problem with tonsilitis. Both were much improved after the op although ds2 still has problems as even at 15 is airways are quite narrow.
